What to Expect

Tesla Manufacturing Engineers have the important role of designing “The Machine that builds the Machine”. We work with the cross-functional teams (Design, Quality, Production, Sustaining, and Supply Chain) throughout the entire lifecycle of a product (from initial design through prototype development and into full production) to develop high quality and efficient manufacturing equipment and processes that will produce the power electronics that drive our cars and energy products.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop manufacturing equipment and fixtures to support early stage prototype builds
  • Determine and procure equipment that is necessary for all manufacturing processes used to build the product 
  • Work with equipment integrators to design and manufacture equipment and fixtures for medium to high volume production
  • Manage suppliers during specification, design, buyoff and installation of manufacturing equipment
  • Characterize and validate new equipment and fixtures for introduction to the production floor
  • Develop new manufacturing processes
  • Determine layout of production workstations for product flow, ergonomics and efficiency
  • Perform process analysis, DOE, PFMEA, line balancing activities, and capacity modeling/simulation
  • Provide DFM (Design for Manufacturability) input to design team for process and yield improvements
  • Create detailed Manufacturing Instructions to train technicians and line operators on new processes and equipment

What You’ll Bring

  • BS/MS Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a hands-on mechanical/manufacturing/design engineer working on mechanical and/or electromechanical systems.
  • Experience creating technical specifications for automated manufacturing equipment
  • Experience introducing new products and new processes from a prototype environment to a production environment
  • Experience providing Design for Manufacturability and Automation
  • Experience designing production line layouts in AutoCAD
  • Proficiency designing mechanical equipment, fixturing and tooling in CAD (SolidWorks preferred, Catia is a plus)
  • Able to work under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines
  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills
  • Well organized with meticulous attention to detail

Expected Compensation

$80,000 - $258,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
