Machine Learning Engineer

GRAIL is using the power of high-intensity sequencing, population-scale clinical studies, and state of the art computer science and data science to enhance the scientific understanding of cancer biology and develop blood tests for early-stage cancer detection.  We are seeking passionate and talented individuals to join us in realizing our mission, which has the potential to dramatically reduce the global burden of cancer.

As a machine learning engineer, you will analyze some of the largest, richest biological datasets in the world to find biological signals and patterns. Your rigorous analysis will guide our assays, bioinformatic pipelines, and product strategies. Working closely with scientists, clinicians, and engineers, you will develop new ways to pull signals out of ultra-deep sequencing data and identify cancer at its earliest stages.

The ideal candidate will have some background or experience in biology or biological data analysis, but this is not a requirement. We are also seeking highly motivated and talented candidates interested in applying their skills to a new domain in a cross-disciplinary environment.

You Will:

  • Modeling and analysis of large, complex genomics datasets using advanced statistical methods to generate predictions and biological insights.
  • Perform end-to-end analysis that include design, data gathering, processing, analysis, iteration with stakeholders, and presentation of results.
  • Interact cross-functionally with other teams including software, clinical, operations, research, product development, and external collaborators.

Your Background Should Include:

  • B.A./B.S., M.S, or Ph.D. in computer science, statistics, mathematics, physics, engineering, or related field.
  • Proficiency with one or more programming languages.
  • Strong understanding of and practical experience with statistical machine learning methods.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with genomics and next generation sequencing data analysis (DNA, RNA, or epigenetic analysis.) Experience analyzing very large datasets (100TB+ scale.) Experience building production machine learning systems. Demonstrated ability to write high-quality, production-ready code (readable, well-tested, well-designed API’s.) Proficiency in Linux environment and experience with version control practices and tools.
