SUMMARY

Under general management, provides day to day supervision to the histology laboratory team for both operational and human resources management. Directs workflow, resolves technical problems and ensures laboratory operations conform to established standards. Provides technical direction and develops, monitors and takes appropriate action to improve overall departmental quality. Ensures training and competency assessments are completed. Performs laboratory duties as a histotech when needed.

EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

Associate Degree required; Bachelor degree preferred in medical laboratory science or life science. Certification as HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP) preferred. Must meet the federal requirements of CLIA 88 qualifications for laboratory supervisor. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be strongly preferred based on specialty.

EXPERIENCE

Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience as histotechnician/histotechnologist required with at least 1 year of team lead or supervisory experience in a laboratory environment preferred. General experience working with LIS products required.

SKILLS

Demonstrated organizational, leadership, and teamwork skills. Strong analytical, problem resolution and business judgement skills. Must be able to multi-task. Must have effective written and verbal communication skills.
