MCPS Official Job Description

Summary Description:

Under direction of the principal, assists with administering and supervising the total school program and providing educational leadership for students and staff members consistent with the educational goals of the community. Functions include establishing a climate conducive to learning, planning, and coordinating programs, affecting change, and decision making. Physical Demands: None Special Requirements: Attendance at evening and weekend student activities, Parent Teacher Association (PTA) meetings, and other functions, as required.

Knowledge Skills Abilities:

Thorough knowledge of Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) policies and procedures, the MCPS elementary school curriculum, and state and federal regulations and laws. Knowledge of curriculum, instruction, organizational patterns, school operations, and pupil services. Ability to motivate, encourage, and work with staff to ensure outstanding performance as well as good morale. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent human relations skills.

Education Training Experience:

Masters degree from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in supervision, educational administration, elementary school curriculum, or a closely related field. Five years of successful teaching experience; at least one of those years must be in MCPS. Three years of school-based leadership experience, assistant school administrator, or central services administrator/central services instructional specialist; resume must provide evidence. Successful completion of Observation and Analysis of Teaching I preferred. Successful completion of Observation and Analysis of Teaching II either prior to or during the first year of assignment. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.Certificate License:Meets Maryland certification requirements for Administrator I or elementary or special education principal and supervisor.
