Position Overview:

The PBS KIDS Distribution team is responsible for the strategy, scheduling, and delivery of PBS KIDS content to the National Program Service (NPS) channel (linear), the PBS KIDS Channel (linear), video-on-demand (VOD) and livestream services on the PBS KIDS Video App for web, mobile, and Connected TV streaming devices, podcast platforms, and the PBS KIDS YouTube channel.

The intern will gain a strong understanding of where broadcast and digital streaming platforms (web, mobile, Connected TVs, YouTube) converge in today’s media and entertainment landscape, help with supporting strategies and plans on increasing the discoverability of content and engagement with our core 2-8-year-old audience.

Time Commitment: 35 hrs./week, May 28, 2024 – August 23, 2024

Undergraduate students receive $15/hour, graduate students receive $17/hour

Key Responsibilities/Projects: 

  • Assist the team with curating and updating series’ video libraries and create thematic video compilations to the PBS KIDS Channel on YouTube 
  • Support the team with scheduling the free video-on-demand and broadcast linear schedule, helping identify seasonal episodes to highlight, strategizing premieres, and marathons 
  • Check videos for accurate accessibility features, including closed captioning, descriptive audio, Spanish audio and American Sign language, when available 
  • Participate in weekly video product, design, content, marketing reviews for web, mobile and Connected TV platforms, and conduct quality assurance testing to ensure content control and reliability 
  • Conduct a comprehensive podcast audit that details seasons, titles, lengths and descriptions for all PBS KIDS podcasts. 
  • Liaise with Content, Communications, and Programming to manage files, episode descriptions, and general deliverables. 
  • Update and maintain documents and spreadsheets as needed 

Skill Intern Will Acquire: 

  • A strong understanding of where broadcast and digital streaming platforms (web, mobile, and Connected TVs) converge in today’s media and entertainment landscape 
  • Strong organizational skills by editorializing, curating, and scheduling video content based on premieres, timelines, educational and popular themes. 
  • Insight into the children’s media lifecycle from series production through distribution 
  • An understanding of the public broadcasting service and system, and how our teams support our local member stations. 

Skills Required 

  • Resourceful, self-directed, and a flexible team player 
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Docs. Willington to learn new systems as needed 
  • Attention to detail; Have the ability to plan, problem solve, and prioritize multiple assignments at the same time. 
  • Receiving a bachelor’s or master’s degree with a focus in media, education, communications, film, educational technology, or related field 
  • Excited about the children’s media industry and willing to learn about and share trends in television and streaming videos
