Position Purpose:

All KHI employees are expected to perform their respective tasks and duties in such a way that supports KHI’s vision of providing the region’s best clinical care and patient service through an environment that fosters respect for others and pride in performance.

Responsible for organizing and presenting exercise classes in the Del E. Webb Wellness Center.

Key Responsibilities [List of material responsibilities and essentials duties which must be completed in achieving the objectives of the position]

  • Responsible for teaching a safe, effective, and motivational group exercise classes using the approved guidelines established by the American College of Exercise (ACSM), National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), International Dance Exercise Association (IDEA), and or the American Fitness and Aerobics Association (AFAA).
  • Instructs patrons on effective workout methods; explains proper techniques, demonstrates exercises; identifies different muscle groups, and teaches appropriate methods to strengthen specific muscles.
  • Responsible for adhering to Kingman Healthcare Inc., (KHI) and Del E. Webb Wellness Center policies and procedure.
  • Assures facility cleanliness by stacking and/or cleaning equipment after use.
  • Monitors the safety of all participants during classes.
  • Notifies appropriate supervisor of any problems or abnormalities with equipment.
  • Responsible for planning music and movements prior to class.
  • Maintains accurate records, complete forms in a timely manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications [Statements regarding minimum educational and experience qualifications, required proficiencies with specialized knowledge, computer proficiencies, military service, required certifications, etc.]

Education:

  • High School diploma or equivalent; or
  • Higher level of education; or
  • A minimum of 1 year of work experience

Licensure: None

Certification:

  • BLS or Heartsaver with AED through American Heart Association or American Red Cross with AED.
  • Fitness certification from any of the following: ACSM, ACE, NSCA, AFAA or another certifying agency program.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Must be able to develop positive interaction and communication with members, guests, co-workers, and other Wellness Center staff to effectively promote active participation.
  • Serves as a motivator in the class environment by possessing good communication skills with a wide variety of populations.
  • Must be able to explain facility policies/procedures to members.
  • Must be able to communicate and work well with all ages and levels of ability.
  • Ability to comprehend educational material in the subject areas of basic exercise physiology, anatomy, kinesiology, nutrition, and exercise performance.
  • Must have knowledge and understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the human body as it relates to exercise and safety precautions.

Preferences [Preferred attributes for the position which are not absolutely required in the minimum qualifications (i.e., multi-lingual, master’s degree)]

Experience: 1 year experience conducting physical exercise classes in a group setting.

Exposure Categories:

  • Category II: Expected duties have possible, but not routine, potential for exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues
  • Other potential hazard(s): Exposure to physical injuries such as tripping, falling, muscle strains and other injuries related to vigorous aerobic exercise. Exposure to a chemically treated indoor pool.

  • Ability to visually monitor participants during class to assure safe and proper execution of exercise moves.
  • Ability to hear calls for help.
  • Requires the use of fine motor skills and good hand to eye coordination.
  • Ability to lead exercise classes which involve continuous physical exertion and with repetitive movement, self-manipulative, pushing and pulling of limbs, bending, lifting, stepping, and standing for at least sixty (60) minutes during one session.
  • Ability to manipulate and incorporate exercises with or without use of resistive equipment (bands, bars, hand weights, tubing, and benches).
  • Possess the ability to memorize exercise routines and interpret directions.
