UAS Operator/Aerial Photographer (Planning - Building & Safety)

Position Summary

Operate Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) to capture images of commercial, residential, and industrial properties. Safely and accurately Coordinate UAS flights; gather and prepare images for Building Safety inspectors to conduct code compliance inspections; and perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements

Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.

High school diploma or GED ; and

Four (4) years of experience in any of the following areas:

  • UAS Operations
  • Aerial/Drone Photography
  • Digital Photo Editing

Operation of Multi-rotor flight instruction (e.g., DJI-M600) preferred.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.

Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.

Possession of a FAA Part 107 UAS Remote Pilot Certificate or the ability to obtain within 60 days from date of hire.

Preferred Knowledge

  • Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes, ordinances and regulations related to UAS Operations
  • UAS data/image capture and management
  • Office procedures, methods and computer equipment
  • Operational characteristics of applicable computer software programs
  • Principles and procedures of record keeping
  • Occupational hazards and standard safety practices

Preferred Skills & Abilities

  • Coordinate UAS flight operations
  • Maintain UAS equipment
  • Safely and accurately capture data/images of inspection sites and properties
  • Respond to requests and inquiries from the general public
  • Communicate clearly and concisely
  • Perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
