What is the opportunity?

  • Lending Services within BCS includes three pillars working collaboratively to provide end to end service support to our Capital Markets and BFS business partners for lending products and supporting administrative agent responsibilities when mandated.
  • The primary objective of the Syndicated Loan Analyst position is to provide day-to-day servicing/administration of an assigned group of Syndicated facilities for which Royal Bank of Canada is Agent and their related loan drawings, fees, interest schedules and the settlement of secondary assignments.
  • Process secondary assignments, and where required primary assignments with established guidelines
  • Responsible for ensuring loan integrity and compliance against bank policies and loan credit agreement.
  • The competence with which the incumbent’s duties are carried out has a major impact on the credibility of the department, both within and outside the Bank. The role of Agent is highly visible and affects the Bank’s ability to obtain Syndication and Agency mandates. Failure to perform in an efficient and competent manner can not only jeopardize the Bank’s reputation but can also result in significant material losses.
  • The incumbent must display a clear understanding of the administrative aspects of each assigned deal to resolve the various requests for interpretation and action that arise daily.

What will you do?

  • Process transactions in ACBS upon requests from assigned Borrowers for advances, rollovers, conversions, or repayments; ensure notice and limit requirements are met, participants are notified, rates are set, and payments are made in accordance with the relevant Credit Agreement.
  • Process secondary assignments, and where required primary assignments, upon requests for assigned Borrowers in accordance with established guideline
  • Process interest and fee transactions in ACBS as required by the Credit Agreement.
  • Where instructed, notify syndicate of pricing and limit changes as required by the Credit Agreement and within established time frames. Create and obtain EUC approval for manual spreadsheets as necessary, to record all transactions and calculations that cannot be processed in ACBS.
  • Where required, arrange for the return of any shares/other possessory collateral to Lenders’ counsel and arrange for cancellation of outstanding LC’s if held as collateral.
  • Maintain a series of Word templates with up-to-date standard instructions to be used as needed for notifications, letters, and fax coversheets.
  • Input payments in RBC Express, RFT/RFX, RIMMS as required for payments which cannot be processed through ACBS.
  • Manage and monitor accounts requiring special handling – Special Loans Accounts/Draw Advisory.
  • Assist Deal Managers on assigned Term Loan B deal closings.
  • Check ClearPar and settle secondary assignments, settle manual assignments, and follow up with Primary Assignment Non-funding items. Process CUSIP Fee and ClearPar fee payments once invoices are available.
  • Assist with the daily reconciliation of the Agency internal accounts by following up for missing or excess funds
  • Process TAX withhold (withhold interest and advise lenders and tax team).
  • Investigate ACBS, LCA and OMS reports daily and input comments where required
  • Advise lenders for pricing changes
  • Respond promptly to Borrower or Lender requests/inquiries
  • Act as a backup to other Analysts and provide training to new hires when required
  • Identify gaps in processes and recommend changes to minimize operational/reputational risk.

What do you need to succeed?

Must have’s

  • Knowledge of the Syndicated Loan Market, especially as an Administrative Agent, and understands market conventions for managing the product
  • Knowledge of Syndicated Lending Operations including: Credit Agreement, loan servicing, revolving credit facilities, term loan facilities, etc
  • Initiative to streamline and automate the settlement and servicing for loans
  • Comfortable managing all aspects of Agency servicing, including interaction with senior internal and external stakeholders: clients, Investors/Lenders, Syndications, Front office etc

Nice to Have’s:

  • Knowledge of ACBS and Clearpar is an asset
