Job Description:

Job Summary: The Manager of Trauma Services is responsible for assisting the Executive Director with administrative and clinical aspects of the trauma program and ensuring verification and designation. The Manager demonstrates leadership aptitude as well as clinical and trauma program expertise. The Manager has responsibility for clinical programs.

Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities:

  1. Demonstrates knowledge, skills, and abilities to support the management of injured patients and trauma program operations.
  2. Anticipates and responds to program needs, including rotation of leader on-call duties.
  3. Leads team members, promoting employee engagement, optimal service for internal and external customers, adequate staffing, and productivity standards. Is accessible to the team and conducts regular team meetings to ensure communication and coordination of services.
  4. Implements appropriate change aligned with the goals of the trauma program and JPS.
  5. Leads continuous improvement activities through the development and execution of projects to optimize trauma performance and outcomes.
  6. Integrates evidence-based standards of care and current regional, state, and national trauma quality indicators into trauma programs.
  7. Maintains records of all quality activities, including evidence of continuous improvement activities, such as action plans and committee minutes.
  8. Collaborates with departmental leaders to optimize processes for trauma data collection, validation, and data integrity.
  9. Analyzes data, including internal dashboards and TQIP Benchmark reports, and addresses opportunities for improvement.
  10. Represents the JPS Trauma Service at hospital, regional, state, and national trauma meetings.
  11. Assists in developing, implementing, and monitoring annual goals and objectives that support the missions and objectives of JPS.
  12. Develops and monitors an annual budget and maintains fiscal responsibility for programs.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors of Science Degree from an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • 5 years of experience in Emergency Department or Critical Care in a designated trauma center.
  • 3 years of trauma program experience in a designated trauma center.
  • 2 years supervisory experience.
  • Current licensure by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas or proof of reciprocity of licensure between the State of Texas and another state.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) and/or Advanced Trauma Care for Nursing (ATCN) Instructor.
  • Trauma Outcomes & Performance Improvement Course (TOPIC) training.
  • Trauma Registered Certified Nurse (TCRN) or similar within 1 year.
  • NIMS training 100, 200, 700, 800 within 90 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing Leadership, Healthcare Administration, or related field.
  • Prior clinical or trauma program leadership experience.
  • TNCC or ATCN Course Director.
  • Trauma Program Manager Course.
  • Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) Training Course.
