The Office of Grants and Sponsored Projects (OGSP) lies administratively within the Division of Academic Affairs. The OGSP is responsible for facilitating aspects of external grant funding, sponsored projects, the dissemination of funding opportunities, collaboration with senior administrative staff to assess funding trends, support the development and submission of grant applications, collaborate with the Finance Division on the oversight of grant funding upon award, and overseeing federal, state, sponsor, and university guidelines and regulations. The successful candidate will be a visionary leader who will work inter-divisionally to increase external funding streams, enhance grant writing and research administration skills across campus, and provide guidance and oversight of all OGSP activities.

The Executive Director provides leadership and operational oversight to the Office of Grants and Sponsored Projects and coordinates the development and program administration of externally funded research and sponsored programs. The Executive Director will work with the Finance Division to ensure Bridgewater State University complies with all Federal, State, and sponsored regulations and will provide leadership, guidance and accountability for all matters related to external grant funding. This position will establish and maintain an infrastructure to enhance the culture of research across the institution. The Executive Director will lead the search for new funding sources, assess the strategic suitability of funding streams and support the success of all applications and awards.

The successful candidate will be a visionary leader who will work inter-divisionally to increase external funding streams, enhance grant writing and research administration skills across campus, and provide guidance and oversight of all OGSP activities.

Supervision Received: Reports to the Senior Associate Provost and Chief Data Officer

Supervision Exercised: Five Office of Grants and Sponsored Projects staff

This is union (Association of Professional Administrators) position and is subject to the terms of that collective bargaining agreement.

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM

(Saturday and Sundays as non-working days)

This position is located on campus in Bridgewater, MA. This position is eligible for hybrid / remote work in accordance with BSU remote work policy.

Essential Duties:

  1. Lead the senior administration team in proactively seeking to identify strategic opportunities for new funding.
  2. Enhance efforts to maintain a strong compliance agenda across federal, state, and private awards.
  3. Works closely with Finance Division to update and make recommendations for new university policies and procedure in all matters related to external awards.
  4. Enhance the campus infrastructure for scholarship by facilitating training, speakers, and conference opportunities.
  5. Facilitate the development of institution-wide proposals.
  6. Ensure all functions of the OGSP exceed expectations.
  7. Lead in the development of strategies to increase the office visibility within the university.
  8. Provide leadership within the department to maintain a healthy work environment.
  9. Responsible for departmental oversight including management of staff, electronic research administration, project and proposal development, compliance and IRB/IACUC committees.
  10. Proactively engage OGSP staff in professional development to maintain knowledge of compliance mandates on the federal and state level including, but not limited to, 2 CFR 200 Uniform Guidance.
  11. Oversee federal, state, and internal reporting, including annual reports and analysis of trends.
  12. Support inter-divisional activities to maintain BSU’s stellar reputation of fiscal stewardship.
  13. Provide guidance to ancillary offices as needed to improve efficiencies and compliance.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree
  • Five years experience in sponsored research administration in progressively responsible leadership roles
  • Ability to provide creative, entrepreneurial guidance to OGSP and the university
  • Capacity to partner to achieve divisional and university strategic goals
  • Aptitude for establishing positive working relationships, ability to facilitate collaboration among diverse stakeholders
  • Possess a high level of organizational skills, demonstrating ability to manage and prioritize multiple work streams, delegate effectively, meet deadlines, adapt to competing demands while ensuring attention to detail
  • Possess excellent communication skills
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office applications
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures in higher education

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or Doctoral Degree
  • Five years leadership experience in sponsored research administration in an institution of higher education
