A Brief Overview

At Stanford Health Care, we recognize the importance of social responsibility and have a commitment to sustainability and diversity. Supply Chain supports activities that reduce the environmental impact to the communities we serve and is responsible for the overall strategic design, development, implementation, management, metrics and execution of the supplier diversity program for the enterprise. Reporting to the Director of Supply Chain Sustainability and Diversity, this role will focus on development of strategic programs through partnerships and engagement. A champion of sustainability, this role will build and implement the Supply Chain program by collaborating with cross-functional leaders to implement programs and processes aimed at reducing the organization's Scope 3 emissions, including identification and communication of new sustainability initiatives that will achieve Stanford Medicine's business objectives and goals. Advancing the Supplier Diversity program development, this role will support engagement strategy by attending outreach events, partnering with business stakeholders and Supply Chain to identify and develop new diverse suppliers. In doing so, the individual will promote a supply chain sustainability and diversity philosophy to internal and external stakeholders. This position is inclusive of all Stanford Medicine entities, including SHC, LPCH, SBC, ValleyCare, UHA and PCHA.

  • Specific tasks within the Stanford Medicine operating dimensions are as follows:
  • Strengthen Stanford Medicine’s role as a sustainability and diversity leader through subject matter expertise, passion and thought leadership advocating for diverse suppliers, environmental sustainability and healthier, safer products in the healthcare sector.
  • Garner support on sustainability and supplier diversity opportunities across the enterprise and with external stakeholders.
  • Assist with development of both short and long-term roadmaps for Stanford Medicine’s supply chain sustainability strategy and diverse supplier relationship strategy, focusing on the implementation of strategic objectives.
  • Establish and monitor goals as they relate to supply chain sustainability and diversity initiatives. Working with other Supply Chain teams, provide sustainability and diverse supplier analysis, report & track progress of goals, and support driving reporting compliance.
  • Partner with Sustainability Program Office (SPO), internal stakeholders to implement processes that reduce Stanford Medicine’s carbon footprint. Lead through collaboration and influence to gain support from others to promote and advance the goals of supply chain to reduce Scope 3 emissions, waste, chemicals of concern, while improving resource conservation and reprocessing of single use devices.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to train and educate internal supply chain teams around sustainable claims verification, marketing, best practices, insights and peer benchmarking.
  • Engage suppliers to collaborate on sustainability opportunities and understand their sustainability targets, goals and activities. Develop improvement plans with suppliers and strategies for ongoing engagement.
  • Lead data collection and aggregation of supplier reported GHG emissions and other key environmental metrics.
  • Understand related market trends, and where appropriate assist with RFIs/RFPs by working closely with supply chain contracting on diversity and sustainability considerations for the contracting process inclusive of procurement practices. Ensure sustainability and diversity factors are considered during category sourcing and selection of products and services.
  • Develop and execute the supplier diversity strategic plan with focus on increasing diverse vendor spend and meeting established goals including the identification and integration of diverse suppliers into the supply chain.
  • Execute a Tier I and Tier II diverse supplier strategy with support of supply chain contracting. Establish and monitor the Tier 1 and Tier 2 goals as they relate to diverse spend. Provide diverse spend analysis, report & track progress, and support driving state mandated reporting compliance.
  • Identification of small and diverse suppliers through facilitation of diverse supplier assessment/networking meetings and serve as subject matter expert in managing suppliers through negotiations and supplier selection for products and services with category management.
  • Assist in onboarding diverse suppliers into the enterprise’s ERP systems post supplier selection and contract execution and support the businesses in escalating issues with supplier performance, providing different levels of input based upon supplier segment.
  • Initiate service level agreements (SLAs) as required, overseeing the diverse relationships to measure and manage supplier performance via a scorecard process and conduct business reviews accordingly.
  • Partner with key stakeholders throughout the supplier lifecycle to champion the diverse supplier oversight activities, accounting for relationship, performance and risk components.
  • Ensure alignment with Stanford Diversity & Inclusion team.
  • Develop a supplier mentoring program.
  • Promote Stanford Medicine’s supply chain sustainability and diversity philosophy to internal and external audiences. Actively communicate supply chain sustainability program and goals.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge on environmental sustainability, healthcare’s role in sustainability, reacting rapidly to new developments in the healthcare sector.
  • Address and resolve issues and escalate issues and trends to supply chain leadership and key stakeholders.
  • Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Supply Chain Management, Sustainability, Science, Business Administration, or a closely related field. Master's Degree preferred.

Experience Qualifications

  • Minimum of (10) years related work experience. At least five years supply chain, sustainability, supplier diversity or supply product experience strongly preferred
  • Passion for environmental, diversity and equity initiatives
  • Knowledge of Scope 3 emissions, health care sourcing and supplier management best practices.
  • Sourcing, supplier management, supplier diversity management & contracting.
  • Working with and advocating on behalf of diverse businesses.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and fostering relationships with suppliers while driving performance and continuous improvement.
  • Track record of new program development.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Understanding of GHG accounting for Scope 3 emissions.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative and team-oriented environment.
  • Proven ability to develop an in-depth understanding of Stanford Medicine’s sustainability program and establish strong relationships with internal stakeholders, supplier community and external advocacy organizations.
  • Ability to leverage experience to develop value added relationships with internal stakeholders and Stanford Health Care’s leaders to reduce Scope 3 emissions.
  • Ability to conduct analyses, develop actionable recommendations and implementation plans.
  • Ability to prioritize activities and multi-task to drive maximum benefit.

  • Extensive written & verbal communication and teamwork skills with both internal and external stakeholders.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of data reporting systems (i.e. Tableau, PowerBI).
  • Experience with third-party technology related to the collection of diversity and/or sustainability supplier information.

Licenses and Certifications

  • ESG/Sustainability/Supplier Diversity certification preferred .
  • CMRP, PMP certification preferred .

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $59.14 - $78.37 per hour
