Job Overview:

The Technical Specialist (Transfusion) is responsible for performing and providing compatibility tests for patients blood transfusion needs as per the established standard operating procedure. Effectively manage and utilize the blood and blood product inventory. Assistance with the preparation and collection of quality control/assurance data reports & performance of quality audits as assigned.

Clinical laboratory personnel, as members of the health care delivery team, are responsible for assuring reliable and accurate laboratory test results which contribute to the diagnosis, treatment, prognosis, and prevention of physiological and pathological conditions in humans. Quality clinical laboratory testing is evidenced by: performing the correct test, on the right person, at the right time, producing accurate test results, with the best outcome, in the most cost-effective manner.

Exhibits effective patient and customer service skills with adherence to core values and mission of hospital.

Qualifications:

Required:

BA/BS Degree in Medical Technology and/or related science required.

Preferred:

National certification preferable.

Experience:

Minimum of two (2) years of clinical laboratory experience in Transfusion/Blood Bank.

Essential Functions:

• Performing and providing compatibility tests for patients blood transfusion needs as per the established standard operating procedure.
• Effectively manage and utilize the blood and blood product inventory.
• Assistance with the preparation and collection of quality control/assurance data reports & performance of quality audits as assigned.
• Responsible for assuring reliable and accurate laboratory test results which contribute to the diagnosis, treatment, prognosis, and prevention of physiological and pathological conditions in humans.
• Quality clinical laboratory testing is evidenced by: performing the correct test, on the right person, at the right time, producing accurate test results, with the best outcome, in the most cost-effective manner.
• Exhibits effective patient and customer service skills with adherence to core values and mission of hospital.
• Demonstrates the ability to perform all computer functions for the following:
• All accessible LIS functions, all HIS functions related to Transfusion services and all the BBLIS functions.
• Must be able to troubleshoot the above and assist staff as needed Acts as a liaison between Transfusion service and the Laboratory Information System, HIS and the BBLIS.
