Job Overview

The Global Head of Technology Roofline Systems will focus on interfacing with customers on a technical level developing technical partnerships that will aid the delivery of complete Roofline systems. This will be achieved by taking into account both the current and future needs of the customer whilst leveraging where possible existing and emerging technologies. 


These partnerships while provide TE with a conduit to understand the current and future technology roadmaps that our customers are working towards realizing. This level of engagement will identify potentially disruptive technologies and will require an ability to rapidly develop expertise in technologies currently outside of Rails portfolio.


The job holder will be required to develop relationships with major technology leaders across the Rail industry and represent TE at industry forums and conferences, presenting papers and promoting TE’s technical capability.


 A key objective of this position is to create a knowledge transfer/sharing process with potential clients so that they value TE’s design capability, understand the benefits of what they are buying and ultimately see TE Rail as a solutions provider and a partner of choice. Ensuring that TE Rails technology and product roadmaps are aligned to support this objective is a critical component of the role. 


The person filling this position will identify high value development projects and as such the individual must be comfortable leading and interfacing with advanced development resources, business case owners, and higher levels of management.  The individual is also required to stay informed on, attend, and influence if possible key Rail consortia and standards organizations. 


The individual will work within a global team that collaborates across all functions and BU’s within TE, including but not limited to Industry Marketing, Product Management, Sales, & Engineering.  This collaboration requires system design experience, innovative ideation, and the ability to define platform scope and product requirements quickly and accurately.


The Global Head of Technology for Roofline Systems will lead the newly formed Systems Design & Engineering team. As this is a new function within Rail Engineering the successful candidate will be responsible for creating the team and defining the roles and responsibilities of the positions within.


In terms of the geographical location this is a European based role with the flexibility to work from home or office as appropriate. Travel will vary depending on the need to interact with key customer technical leaders and to continually verify market trends.

Responsibilities & Qualifications


  • Driving the system solution approach using TE Rails design capability as a key differentiator and point of difference.
  • Align the Rail Technology and Product Roadmaps to current and future customer applications, ensuring that the related business opportunities are clearly understood.
  • Provide in-depth technical systems consultation, training and mentoring of Rail engineering teams both internally and externally to TE.
  • Ensure that RAMS & Lifecycle management are considered at the systems definition stage.
  • Identify emerging or disruptive technologies.
  • Define desired proof of concepts that will result in clear VOC activities and ultimate commercialization of product platforms
  • Staying informed, attending, and influencing key industry consortia and standards organizations. 

Essential Requirements 


  • A minimum of ten years industry experience in the field of Safety Critical applications. 
  • Recognized as an expert in Railway Technologies and their application for both mainline and mass transit systems.
  • A leading practitioner in the design and specification of complex safety critical systems.
  • Proven knowledge of industry quality and safety standards.  
  • MSc in a relevant Engineering discipline is essential however a PhD in a related subject is preferred.

Desirable Requirements

  • The geographically dispersed position requires that the candidate be self-motivated with the ability to take the initiative to accomplish tasks with limited direction.
  • The candidate must be able to coordinate and share knowledge and standards coverage with others in this role within TE Rail to ensure coverage of all regions (Americas, EMEA, A/PAC) and the ability to identify similar global requirements across various industries
  • Able to effectively manage relationships across the business and achieve outcomes beneficial to both their own team and the broader business
  • The candidate must have good written and verbal communication skills and be able to clearly communicate technical concepts to diverse audiences.
