Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Vice President for FMD, the Special Advisor to the VP will play a key role in the successful initiation, planning, implementation, and adoption of business-critical strategic and technology projects in addition to evaluating business efficiencies and best practices for FMD. The incumbent will maintain a high level of confidentiality in performing responsibilities associated with day-to-day operations of the department and the advancement of strategic initiatives for the ongoing FMD strategic plan. This position serves as an advisor to the VP and will provide independent analysis and judgement in prioritizing situations needing attention and taking steps to ensure projects are moved forward and tracked for progress through completion. The incumbent will develop recommendations that involve sensitive and sophisticated relationships that include stakeholders, campus leaders, and city/county leaders. 

Department Summary

Facilities Management and Development (FMD), a unit within the Administration and Finance Division (AFD), is responsible for the planning, design, construction, operations, maintenance, and repair of university facilities, grounds, and infrastructure. FMD consists of five critical and interdependent support departments, including Customer & Business Services; Energy, Utilities, & Sustainability; Environmental Health & Safety; Facilities Planning & Capital Projects; and Facilities Operations. Key Qualifications

  1. Ability to understand, communicate, analyze, and apply CSU personnel policies, collective bargaining agreements, state and federal laws, rules, standards, procedures and policies.
  2. Demonstrated ability in taking initiative, recognizing and anticipating the needs of a department head, including making independent decisions on schedule management, communication transactions, information preparation, records management, data analysis and discretion.
  3. Thorough knowledge of administrative concepts, practices, and procedures for researching, developing and _ evaluating policies, procedures and programs including data collection, evaluation, and interpretation.
  4. Demonstrated ability to provide high-level administrative and analytical support including analyzing, interpreting, and applying a wide range of policies, laws/regulations/codes, directives, instructions and guidelines.
  5. Ability to represent the department and its interests in a professional and conscientious manner.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree and five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the areas of project / operations management and / or high-level administrative support. A graduate degree may be substituted for one year of the required experience. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year for year basis.

Salary and Benefits

The anticipated hiring range for this role is $85,000 - $110,000 annually. Note that the offer is calculated based on the background and relevant years of experience of the individual selected.
