Job Description

AECOM has an opportunity for a Senior Electrical Engineer for a full-time position based in our Burnaby, BC office. The ideal candidate will have a successful track record in delivering conceptual, preliminary and detailed design phases, and construction services of mining and industrial plant, and water treatment facilities. They will work in a team environment with intermediate and senior engineers to deliver studies and detailed designs projects to our clients based in Western Canada, Canada and the US and beyond.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Mentor junior staff to develop skill sets that support AECOM and Water Department goals.
  • Provide leadership and engineering decisions to facilitate the design delivery of electrical power distribution systems, development of power and grounding system models (eTAP, CDEGs or equivalent), lighting and low-tension systems (i.e. fire alarm, security, CCTV, communications network, etc.).
  • Plan, design and supervise production of drawings and functional descriptions/specifications for complete automation systems including field and panel control devices and SCADA for various processes including ore mining materials handling systems, water/wastewater treatment and other industrial applications.
  • Plan and produce procurement packages for long lead Electrical equipment and installation scope of work to facilitate project tender process, including the production of relevant supporting engineering design documentation.
  • Plan and produce engineering reports using sound engineering logic and written expression in English that is cohesive, clear and concise on Electrical subject matters.
  • Perform the client-facing role of Project Manager or Deputy Project Manager on small to medium projects managing a multi-disciplinary team and project controls staff.
  • Demonstrate creativity, proactiveness, foresight and mature judgement in anticipating and solving both routine and unusual project delivery, technical and client challenges.
  • Strictly adhere to AECOM's project and Quality standards, including capability of learning and adopting clients' standard and requirements upon request.
  • Ensure accuracy, completeness and quality of technical aspect on project documentation produced in accordance with AECOM QA/QC procedures and the clients' standards.
  • Ensure that project deliverables are produced in a timely manner to expected quality and allocated budget.
  • Work with Construction Contract Administrator to review E I&C aspect of Shop Drawings, prepare and issue responses to contractor queries.
  • Perform site inspections and issue inspection reports, issue Field Instructions and Field Orders, and prepare deficiency reports.
  • Provide technical support through all phases of the project.

Qualifications

Minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent + 8 years engineering design and field experience in a multidisciplinary electrical, instrumentation & control environment for production, including field services during construction phase of projects.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer
  • Possess current knowledge and ability to interpret the relevant industry standards (CSA, ANSI, ISA, IEEE, etc.) and their application for compliant designs.
  • Proven track record in design and production of tender engineering documents such as P&IDs, single line diagrams, control network diagrams, electrical hazardous area & grounding drawings, electrical and instrument location drawings, loop & schematic wiring diagrams; developing equipment load schedules, cable & tray calculations, instrumentation indices & standard details.
  • Must be able to interpret engineers' notes & specifications, and convert into detailed design drawings accurately in timely manner with minimum amount of supervision.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Proficient with Microsoft software including Outlook, Excel, Word, Powerpoint and Teams.
  • Able to travel by domestic air travel within Canada.
  • Valid Class V driver’s license.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, / I&C Engineering from a recognized/accredited institution.
  • 10+ years engineering design and field experience in a multi-disciplinary electrical, instrumentation & control environment for production, including field services during construction phase of projects.
  • Professional Engineer in British Columbia preferred.
  • Experience in theon designs of substation, low and medium voltage distribution, standby generation, transformers, and UPS and interface with controllers such as Delta V DCS and Rockwell PLCs.
  • Experience in working with drafting and modelling software such as AutoCAD, Revit and Navisworks.
  • Experience in working with Microsoft Project, OneDrive and Sharepoint.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to interpret and use eTAP, PTW or other equivalent power system modelling tools.
  • Demonstrated experience with business development in the mining and industrial market and ability to win business.
  • Familiar with the Canadian Electrical Code, NFPA (National Fire Protection Association), medium voltage (up to 63kV4160V), low voltage (up to 750600V) and communication systems will be an asset.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Critical thinking to identify issues, present solutions and follow through to ensure completion.
  • Capable of collaborating and communicating effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

Additional Information

  • Sponsorship for Canadian employment authorization is not available for this position.
  • Offered rate of compensation in Burnaby, BC will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $117,000 - $200,000.
