Job summary

Help resolve issues for our enterprise customers by providing high-level technical support and sustaining engineering services to maximize uptime and reduce IT costs. The Red Hat Support Engineering team is looking for a Senior Software Maintenance Engineer to join us in Pune, India. In this role, you will be expected to resolve issues quickly and efficiently. You’ll collaborate with our customers' top developers and architects and assist our technical support engineers with complex and challenging issues. As a Senior Software Maintenance Engineer, you will also partner closely with development engineering teams and work alongside some of the brightest developers in the open source community. Primary job responsibilities

  • Partner with the Red Hat CloudForms communities to develop and review patches and test cases
  • Analyze upstream development against current customer reported defects and develop patches to resolve the issues
  • Use tools like cURL, Wireshark, and IRB to investigate and troubleshoot technical issues
  • Record customer interactions including investigation, troubleshooting, and resolution of issues
  • Work closely with Red Hat’s development engineering team and assist production support engineers and technical account managers
  • Demonstrate considerable judgment in selecting methods and techniques to obtain solutions
  • Maintain a commitment to providing the best experience possible for Red Hat’s customers
  • Manage your workload to ensure that all customer issues are handled and resolved in a timely manner
  • Assist in the development of comprehensive and reusable self-service solutions for future incidents

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field; engineering or computer science is a plus
  • 5+ years of experience as a support or development engineer managing and maintaining  Linux systems
  • Passion for open source software, tooling, and automation
  • Advanced skills with command-line tools and scripting languages like Python
  • Good understanding of Linux tools, with an emphasis on cURL and Wireshark
  • Commitment to providing the best experience possible for Red Hat customers
  • Excellent reading and writing skills in English; fluent language skills in English are a plus
  • 3+ years of experience with automation frameworks and tools like Puppet, Ansible by Red Hat, or CFEngine is a big plus
  • Linux operating system installation, configuration, upgrade, and maintenance experience is a big plus


The following are considered a plus:

 

  • Experience working with infrastructure providers like Google Compute Engine (GCE), Amazon Web Services (AWS), VMware ESXi, and Microsoft Hyper-V is a plus
  • Solid development-level experience with Ruby and experience writing patches
  • Upstream involvement in open source projects like patches submitted for upstream inclusion
