The challenge facing HARMAN Connected Services (HCS) today is to extend its franchise as the world-leading supplier of software services to the mobile devices industry while expanding their reach into new market and customer segments.  This will require an aggressive thrust to promote and drive the acceptance of HCS's services capability by the marketplace through a targeted effort to the leading Automotive OEM’s and Tier 1’s and chipset vendors.


The objective is to expand our customer base in to new market segments, with a focus on Consumer Electronics, to bring in new meaningful revenue streams and to support the expansion of business within our existing customer base.


The successful Consumer Electronics Solutions Director will establish business relations with all the major players in the regional markets or customer business unit with a core focus on new solution offering opportunities.


The clear intent is to establish HCS as the “go to” supplier in the market when it comes to developing new Automotive electronics experiences, solutions; and be the natural company for off-loading/shoring back-end development work (implementation, test & verification, maintenance, porting services) in that sector.


The Automotive Solutions Director will work closely with the head of Automotive Business Unit and the regional sales teams, agreeing key customer targets, opportunities and action plans.  The Solutions Director will also be responsible for coordinating activities and focus on key priorities for new solution developments, demonstration support, working with the global pool of solution Directors to share knowledge and providing some local marketing support activities (such as attending trade shows, creating technology blogs and whitepapers).


The primary responsibility of the Technical Automotive Solutions Director will include


  • Support the regional sales teams by maintaining deep insights on new technologies and software platforms relevant for the Automotive market.


  • Identify relevant technology and software development changes for the local vendors and translate these in to opportunity statements.


  • Development of business plans to solution proposals to support growing the customer pipeline in region.


  • Identify key skill sets and competencies required to address customer issues and opportunities and work with the appropriate delivery and practice teams to ensure such skills sets are available within HCS.


  • Support the sales team during the initial phases of new business development for new solutions or with new customers.


  • Support the creation of solution offering materials including presentations, sales handbooks and offering briefs and reference bids. Training of the sales and relevant support teams.


  • Working with the bid manager for the customer or region to support the delivery of high quality proposals for customers.


  • Be willing and prepared to represent HCS with key customers and business partners, traveling on behalf of the company.






Ideal candidates possess good leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.  Must be a high-energy individual with excellent strength of convictions, a self-confident leader who, in part due to his/her personal presence and demeanor, effectively sells ideas and programs to others.  Should possess natural programming as a team player and have a history of working well with an over-achieving management group.  This person is by nature a risk-taker and has a high level of ambition.  Equally importantly, this person must have unquestioned integrity.


HCS requires someone long on native intelligence and still possessing the appropriate intuition and self-confidence to adapt to changing market conditions.  This person has a high level of analytical intelligence and is a sophisticated, multi-dimensional thinker; s/he can demonstrate cognitive flexibility and has the ability to simplify a situation and break it down so that potential problems can be identified and addressed.  This individual must also be a strong marketing strategist, someone who believes in the importance of the product and marketing intelligence in the product life cycle.


This individual should possess palpable leadership ability; deal naturally and effectively with senior executives in the Automotive arena.  Must be an exceptional interpersonal communicator able to understand and easily express the vision of a paradigm shifting technology.  Should be comfortable as a frontline crusader for change demonstrating commitment and conviction of the importance of the company’s strategy.



Required experiences: 

  • Minimum of 5 years working for a Automotive company – ideal companies would be vendors, Car OEM’s or Automotive Tier 1’s
  • Existing network and understanding of the customers in the Automotive market including how they work internally, organization, decision makers etc.
  • Hands on software development experience or management of sizable software development projects in the Automotive market.
  • General understanding of software development (preferably for Automotive devices) – process and organization; to understand how HCS can interact and off shore/out source development. To create growth, we must address not just technical problems but become a strategic, integrated, part of our customer’s organization – being better than they are in developing applications for the mobile Internet.
  • Has experience of working in sales or a sales support role.

Adaptive and capable of responding to changing customer demands in real-time (i.e. during a customer meeting).

Demonstrable experience in creatively solving technical challenges

  • Educated to degree level in a relevant subject

Specific job skills: 

  • Excellent English communication and presentation skills.  
  • Up to 30% of travel.
