Part-Time Custodian/Janitor

Beatitudes of Our Lord Parish

Hours: Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM (30-minute lunch break)

Position Summary:

Beatitudes of Our Lord Parish is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Part-Time Custodian/Janitor to ensure the cleanliness, maintenance, and security of our parish facilities. The custodian will be responsible for daily cleaning, minor repairs, and setting up spaces for various events and services. This position requires reliability, the ability to work independently, and a commitment to maintaining a welcoming environment for worship, ministry, and community gatherings.

Primary Responsibilities:

General Duties:

  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, and maintain floors in all parish buildings
  • Clean and restock restrooms daily
  • Empty trash receptacles and replace liners
  • Dust and polish surfaces, including countertops, tables, and religious shrines
  • Clean doors, handles, glass windows, and pews as needed
  • Maintain an inventory of cleaning supplies and restock as necessary
  • Perform minor repairs and maintenance as directed by the Business Manager
  • Secure facilities by locking/unlocking doors, setting alarms, and patrolling the premises

Church Maintenance:

  • Dry mop under pews and clean pew cushions as needed
  • Vacuum carpets and sweep the sacristy floors as necessary
  • Conduct a weekly interior and exterior inspection and report findings
  • Reset emergency exit lights monthly
  • Open and close water main valves monthly
  • Flush and drain the water heater monthly

Msgr. Marron Hall & Kitchen:

  • Clean and maintain restrooms, floors, and stage area
  • Dust windows, doors, and handles
  • Set up tables and chairs as directed for events
  • Clean kitchen sinks, countertops, refrigerator, and stove surfaces as needed

Ministry Center & Parish Offices:

  • Mop, vacuum, and clean restrooms and carpets regularly
  • Dust and clean doors, handles, and windows weekly
  • Empty all trash cans daily

Exterior & Grounds Maintenance:

  • Pick up and remove trash from walkways, patios, and parking areas
  • Empty outdoor trash receptacles
  • Sweep and maintain walkways and patio areas

Other Duties:

  • Assist with special projects and events as needed
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Business Manager

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Prior custodial, janitorial, or maintenance experience preferred
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to work independently and follow instructions
  • Strong attention to detail and time management skills

Wage Range

The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
