Position Summary:

The Enterprise Student Management Systems (ESMS) unit within the UCI Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides support for the systems and applications used by six large, complex and mission critical business units: Financial Aid and Scholarships, Financial Services, Graduate Division, Office of the Registrar, Summer Session, and Undergraduate Admissions. The support provided includes daily operational support, monitoring, incident management and troubleshooting; new development, maintenance, upgrades, and enhancements to a diverse group of complex in-house developed applications, systems, integrations, data extracts and reports; and support for third-party software products and their integration with other systems.

Under the supervision of the Registrar IT Lead, the Registrar Systems Operations Support & Systems Developer applies professional programming concepts for small to medium-sized projects or portions of larger projects in support of the Office of the Registrar. Serves as an operational contact for Registrar system service incidents by resolving and escalating of service tickets as they are assigned to the team. Resolves a variety of programming design and implementation issues. Works on programming assignments of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors.

Required:

Minimum one (1) year of professional experience with Java programming language. Minimum one (1) year of professional SQL development experience (preferably T-SQL). Minimum one (1) year of professional experience with Object-Oriented Design and Programming Minimum two (2) years of experience in a technical support role directly interacting with end users or customers. Preferred One (1) year of experience with operational support of custom developed systems. One (1) year of experience with operational support of vendor systems and/or integrations. Experience using a ticketing system (ServiceNow, Remedy, Footprints, ZenDesk). Experience using DevOps tools (e.g. Jira/DevOps/Slack/Trello).

Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

Knowledge of secure software development. Intermediate skills associated with the design, development, modification and deployment of software, including object-oriented programming concepts, specifically for Java. Knowledge of other IT related areas. Demonstrated software repository skills. Experience with common programming tools. Demonstrated ability to follow software specifications. Demonstrated testing and test planning skills. Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Working knowledge with databases and SQL. Demonstrated ability to create and modify moderately complex queries. Working knowledge of formal SDLC methodologies (Waterfall, Agile, Scrum). Working knowledge of version control software for branching, merging (preferably Git).

Preferred:

  • Experience using Unix operating systems.

Special Conditions Required:

  • Must pass a background check. 
  • May be required to work overtime, as needed. 
  • Position eligible for hybrid remote work (partial remote/partial on-site). 
  • Must reside in California.
