General Profile: The Graphite Materials Preparation Operator is responsible for preparing graphite components to meet quality, dimensional, and cleanliness standards prior to downstream processing (e.g., machining, purification, or coating). The role includes handling raw graphite, executing preparation procedures, and performing visual and dimensional inspections to ensure materials meet production requirements

Key Responsibilities

Material Preparation

  • Load/unload raw graphite blanks into fixtures or processing stations
  • Perform surface preparation (e.g., sanding, grinding, dedusting) according to standard operating procedures
  • Cut, trim, or pre-shape graphite components if required

Inspection & Documentation

  • Perform visual inspection for cracks, chips, or surface irregularities
  • Measure parts using basic hand tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers)
  • Record preparation steps and inspection data into log sheets or electronic tracking systems

Equipment Operation

  • Operate material handling tools, jigs, carts, and safety fixtures
  • Maintain cleanliness and readiness of preparation equipment
  • Report equipment malfunctions or material abnormalities to supervisor

Safety & Quality

  • Adhere to EHS policies and wear required PPE
  • Maintain compliance with cleanliness, contamination control, and quality standards
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and suggest process optimizations

Other Requirements: This is a very physically demanding position that often requires standing for extended periods of time, walking, bending, squatting, twisting, kneeling, reaching, lifting, the ability to distinguish between colors, the ability to work in an environment with noise that may be difficult for some individuals with sensitivity to noise, the use of hand and power tools, and driving or operating heavy machinery including forklifts.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Enrolled in or completed technical/vocational certificate and training in machining
  • 1+ years of experience in manufacturing or materials handling (graphite or ceramics preferred)
  • Familiarity with SOP's, safety procedures, and basic shop math
  • Ability to read and follow technical instructions and work orders
  • Basic computer skills for data entry and documentation
  • Attention to detail and ability to work in a team environment

The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program, as applicable.

For all sales roles, the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role, which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
