Associate Director Engineering and Facilities South San Francisco (SSF)

The South San Francisco (SSF) Facility Operation provides service delivery and solutions, serving our Company’s strategic research and discovery facilities by managing the execution and delivery of key maintenance functions, utility assurance and facility management; by identifying and executing efficient and effective solutions which meet the requirements of the Company.

Reports to Global Workplace and Enterprise Services (GWES) Director, Engineering for the South San Francisco (SSF) Site

Basic Function:

Drive excellence, enable business goals and provide management of facilities maintenance operations and services at the SSF site, whether directly or indirectly through Integrated Facilities Management (IFM) partners. Possess an in-depth knowledge of facilities management and will ensure efficient, compliant, and sustainable operation of facility systems.

Primary activities include but are not limited to management, oversight, and ownership of:

  • Site utilities, HVAC systems, lighting, fire safety systems, building maintenance work, asset management programs, and specialized systems such as Liquid Nitrogen, Helium etc.
  • Grounds maintenance, Landscaping, cleaning services, pest control, waste management and parking.
  • Ownership and execution of engineering and site improvement studies.
  • Provides technical expertise in the investigation of complex technical problems and develops innovative solutions using current and new technologies or approaches.
  • Ensure Company standards, priorities, and IFM providers’ meet Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) while aligning with Global Workplace and Enterprise Services (GWES) priorities.
  • Provide support to site and organizational sustainability Energy and Carbon footprint reduction initiatives.
  • Evaluate facility fit and cost for new projects / processes and develop estimates for any required modifications or additional equipment loads.
  • Develop and execute policies, procedures, programs, and budgets to ensure effective maintenance of all facilities and equipment.
  • Promote and model the site safety culture, owning and ensuring safe and compliant execution of maintenance and operations within our facilities. 

Position Qualifications:

Education Minimum Requirement:

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, or a related field. Substantive experience may be considered in lieu of specific degree.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • A minimum of 5 years of Maintenance/Engineering/Facilities experience 
  • An understanding of maintenance processes, systems, and compliance
  • Exhibit sound leadership qualities amongst competing priorities and agendas while leading, developing, and motivating a cross functional team of internal employees and external service providers.
  • Successfully navigate challenges and influence across the enterprise.
  • Understanding of facility and maintenance operations and technical and problem-solving abilities
  • Computer skills using MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Communication, leadership, teamwork, and customer service skills.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • BS or higher Engineering or applicable science
  • Core Maintenance Function
  • Project Management

U.S. Hybrid Work Model

Final determinations with respect to salary will take into account a number of factors, which may include, but not be limited to the primary work location and the chosen candidate’s relevant skills, experience, and education.

Expected salary range:

$118,640.00 - $186,800.00
