WPP is on a global transformation journey, and this is an opportunity to join and take the lead on Treasury control and accounting for Group Treasury. Investment is being made to transform the WPP finance and accounting organisation to better support the business. The new composition for the finance function will target a modernised reporting structure of greater scale, to better service the volume of work required and to the level expected of a FTSE 100 business. This hire will be a critical role in ensuring this success.

What you'll be doing:

We are looking for an experienced Treasury Controller/Head of Treasury Accounting to join our team at WPP Plc. In this role, you will manage all aspects of treasury accounting, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, and aiding the wider finance team with strategic financial analysis and insights. The Treasury Controller will take full accountability of all accounting, control, and documentation for Treasury accounting practices globally.

This will include assisting the Treasurer and team on the interest Profit and Loss (P&L)for the group c(£250m+ p.a.) across 112 countries, cash pooling in 35 markets including ZBA and notional pooling structures.

Derivative accounting for the Group's FX portfolio including cash flow hedge and net investment hedge accounting arrangements and documentation.

Finally aiding with Group debt issuance of bonds, cross currency or interest rate swaps, the associated hedging documentation and ongoing reporting required for IFRS 9.

In doing this role you will partner with the Group Finance teams, Technical Accounting and the broader WPP Finance team as a leader imparting specialist knowledge and upskilling team members where required on Treasury matters.

Who you'll be working with:

You will report into the Group Treasurer, key responsibilities are:

Treasury accounting

  • Design, implement, and maintain effective hedge accounting policies and procedures in accordance with IFRS 9, and other relevant accounting standards.
  • Prepare and review all hedge accounting documentation, including hedge designation assessments, effectiveness assessments, and presentation disclosures.
  • Perform complex accounting calculations related to hedge accounting, including regular fair value measurements and effectiveness testing.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of hedge accounting activity in accordance with IFRS.
  • Help with the implementation and application of IFRS 9 Financial Instruments for all financial instruments within the treasury function.
  • Stay up-to-date on relevant accounting standards and regulatory changes, particularly those impacting hedge accounting and IFRS 9.
  • Provide technical accounting support and guidance to the wider treasury team.
  • Work with with external auditors and ensure the successful completion of financial statement audits.

Financial reporting

  • To validate the reporting of interest (revenue and expense) by Group Finance and WPP's operating units.
  • Work with with Group Finance and FP&A on cash reporting, forecasting and net debt reporting ensuring the accuracy and accounting basis for all figures is appropriate.
  • Ensure the reporting of hedge arrangements is accurate within the financial statements

Business partnering

  • Build a deep relationship with Finance colleagues and FDs/CFOs across WPP's diverse networks and influence decisions.
  • Develop relationships with regional banks.
  • Help the integration, development and reporting in the central treasury system, IT2.

Internal controls

  • Execute and document relevant internal controls in accordance with the Group's Risk and Control Framework.

What you'll need:

You will have strong Treasury credentials (covering execution and reporting) and experience in operating in a listed, multi-national business of significant scale and complexity. You will bring partnership and communication skills and a proven ability to work at senior levels within an organisation.

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (ACA/ACCA or equivalent qualification preferred).
  • Experience in a treasury accounting role in an international or listed business; with a strong focus on hedge accounting.
  • In-depth knowledge of IFRS 7 Financial Instruments: Disclosures, IFRS 9 Financial Instruments, and other relevant accounting standards.
  • Proven experience in applying hedge accounting principles in practice including hedging with FX and bonds with cross currency swaps.
  • Proven experience using Treasury related systems (such as Bloomberg) to determine the Fair Value of derivatives.
