The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Reporting to the CUIMC Senior Cloud Architect; A cloud architect is primarily responsible for an organization’s cloud computing architecture. Their job responsibilities include keeping track of cloud activities, developing and moving applications to the cloud, and specifying computing demands. They also provide advice on how to deal with high-risk situations. The Cloud Architect is responsible for enterprise cloud infrastructure and platforms in Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure and Google GCP.

The cloud architect has a solid understanding of cloud computing and technology systems, as well as experience designing and transferring applications to the cloud. You should have a positive attitude and excellent communication skills to effectively share your knowledge.

Responsibilities

Cloud Lead (30%)

  • Collaborates with the Senior Cloud Architects, Cloud Engineers, Systems Manager, Senior Systems Administrators, and Application Administrators to ensure alignment of AWS, Azure and GCP solution architecture with existing enterprise infrastructure support architecture, strategies, and information security considerations in a PHI environment.
  • Lead and mentor cloud and system engineers.
  • Advise CUIMC staff and researchers on cloud and cloud migration strategies,

Cloud Technology (50%)

  • Designing the cloud environment from a comprehensive perspective, ensuring that it satisfies all the company’s needs.
  • Identify the top cloud architecture solutions to successfully meet the strategic needs of the company. Develop a well-informed cloud approach and monitor the transition.
  • Create a well-informed cloud strategy and manage the adaptation process.
  • Architect, deploy and maintain a resilient cloud infrastructure.
  • Architect and deploy new applications to the cloud environment. Adopt a Cloud Native first way of deploying and migrating applications.
  • Architect and deploy solutions with automation as a priority.
  • Performing activities such as deployment, maintenance, monitoring, and management inside the cloud framework that has been created.
  • Leads application life cycle management initiatives by refactoring or replacing legacy applications with cloud applications i.e., modernize to become cloud native.
  • Develops cloud adoption plans, cloud application design, and cloud management and monitoring.
  • Translating project-specific requirements into a cloud structure that meets those requirements, as well as considering the project’s resource use and scalability requirements. Work with corporate/research clients to understand their requirements and put in place cloud solutions to satisfy those requirements.
  • Prioritize helping researchers with their cloud needs. Help researchers devise and implement cloud-based AI/ML, data pipelines, HPC and other computing resources. Coordinate with cloud providers to bring in experts in the field.
  • Assist with infrastructure migration strategies, such as mass application transfers to the cloud. Assist with the migrations.
  • Offer guidance in infrastructure movement techniques including bulk data transfers into the cloud.
  • Investigates and resolves cloud related issues with the appropriate teams. Respond to technical issues in a professional and timely manner.
  • Assist IT security to monitor the company's cloud privacy and suggest additions and changes.
  • Work with IT Security to ensure cloud security and suggest possible solutions.
  • Conducts cloud readiness assessments factoring in business and technical perspectives.
  • Evaluates existing data center infrastructure and proposes an AWS, Azure and GCP cloud computing strategy.
  • Evaluate new products that will enhance cloud environments. Regularly evaluate cloud apps, hardware, network and software. Re-evaluate existing solutions.

Cloud Evangelist (20%)

  • Act as the CUIMC cloud evangelist. Explore ways to engage the community.
  • Acts as the liaison between CUIMC and the cloud providers.
  • Coordinate external resources to help the CUIMC cloud community.
  • Support researchers with acquiring cloud-based grant requests.
  • Work with cloud providers to reduce cloud spending.
  • Work with cloud providers to arrange training and support for CUIMC personnel on cloud products.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in education and experience required. Minimum 4 years related experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • 4-5 years of cloud engineering experience with one of the major cloud providers.
  • 1-3 years of supporting a multi-account/project organization.
  • 4-5 years of support of cloud-based applications and services.
  • Be capable of coordinating various groups to architect cloud solutions.

Other Requirements

  • Experience with virtual and physical networks including BGP, routing and physical network connectivity. This should include network components such as Direct Connect and Megaport.
  • Experience with cloud-based security tools such as AWS Security Hub and GCP Security Command Center.
  • Certification is a plus.
  • Subject to business needs, we may support flexible and hybrid work arrangements. Options will be discussed during the interview process.
  • Rotating On-Call coverage, on nights and weekends, is required for this position.
