ABOUT WFP

The United Nations World Food Programme is the world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. The mission of WFP is to help the world achieve Zero Hunger in our lifetimes. Every day, WFP works worldwide to ensure that no child goes to bed hungry and that the poorest and most vulnerable, particularly women and children, can access the nutritious food they need.

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

The United Nations World Food Programme is the world’s largest humanitarian organization that is committed to saving lives in emergencies and changing lives through sustainable development. WFP is working with 120 countries around the world, supporting governments in their efforts to reach the targets under Sustainable Development Goal 2 – improving access to food, ending all forms of malnutrition, improving incomes, and promoting sustainable agriculture.

WFP believes that a world free of hunger cannot be achieved unless everyone has equal opportunities, equal access to resources and equal voice in the decisions that shape households, communities, and societies. Gender equality, women empowerment and inclusion are therefore integrated into all of WFP’s work to ensure that the differential food and nutrition needs of women, men, girls and boys are met and all marginalized and vulnerable groups are able to access food. WFP’s Gender Policy (2022-27) aims to work towards advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment in a sustainable manner to meet the following objectives: (i) Equitable access to and control over the means to achieve food security and nutrition; (ii) Addressing the root causes of gender inequality, and (iii) Economic empowerment of women and girls.

Under a collaboration with the Department of Women and Child Development (WCD), Government of Haryana, WFP is implementing an intervention on gender training of WFP staff, particularly the Anganwadi Workers to enhance the community level gender sensitization activities conducted by them. At the same time the project includes a community awareness campaign to inform women of the various government schemes that they could benefit from, and to promote good nutrition knowledge and behaviours.

WFP has a zero-tolerance approach to conduct such as fraud, sexual exploitation and abuse, sexual harassment, abuse of authority and discrimination. All selected candidates will be expected to adhere to WFP’s standards of conduct and will therefore undergo rigorous background verification internally or through third parties. Selected candidates will also be required to provide additional information as part of the verification exercise. Misrepresentation of information provided during the recruitment process may lead to disqualification or termination of employment.
