Success Profile:
The Technical Designer manages the product lifecycle from sketch through pre-production through production fit approval. Schedules, prepares for, and conducts fittings on live Fit Models to assess garments and advise fit corrections to overseas teams and factories. Creates and updates Tech Packs for all product categories for brand. Works collaboratively with Design to update measurements and ensures garment construction and production is accurate and on calendar to meet all established deadlines.
Key Accountabilities:
Product Lifecycle Management: Manage product life cycle from sketch through pre-production through production fit approval
Collaboration: Overseer initial sample specifications from Design sketch; Establish close partnership with Design team to facilitate the interpretation of Design concepts to maintain design integrity; Collaborate with Design and Production on apparel development in order to create cost effective styles
Fitting and Specification: Schedule, prepare for, and conduct fittings on LIVE Fit Models to assess garments and advise fit corrections to overseas teams and factories; Create initial spec to final full graded spec; Determine corrections to achieve fit by manipulating pattern or flat technical sketches; Evaluate fit to determine manufacturer has met the requirements of the garment; Ensure all specs and detailed fit comments are conveyed to vendors accurately and on time
Technical Specification: Generate computerized technical specification packages; Review and evaluate samples for spec, pattern, shape, and construction; Consult with Designers to work through complicated garment construction to establish fit; collaborate with Design to update measurements and specifications for the tech pack
Communication: Communicate with overseas offices and vendors to identify and resolve issues with garment construction and production; Meet with Production Team – weekly – to review sample approval status to ensure Time and Action Calendar compliance; Interact – daily – with agents, overseas offices and vendors to problem-solve all issues related to garment engineering throughout the product lifecycle
Corrections and Approvals: Utilize digital photos, technical sketches, detailed instructions and comments from Fitting to communicate corrections; Approve garment for production or reject sample and schedule follow-up Fitting
Systems: Use PLM systems; Gerber Yunique PLM or equivalent
