JOB TITLE: Director of Environmental Health and Safety

MIN. EDU LEVEL: Bachelor’s degree in related field SALARY GRADE LEVEL: G20
SUMMARY:
This individual will provide professional knowledge and expertise in administrating and supporting all environmental health and safety programs and will ensure compliance with regulatory agency guidelines. Maintain records of all plant safety information; manage safety investigations, inspections, and safety training; prepare reports required by Company policy and governmental regulations. Stay abreast of environmental and safety regulations.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervision of assigned staff (4). Indirect supervision providing general direction to Production Trainer staff (28), floor management, QA, Training and Maintenance Staff, Safety Committees (35), and Health Services staff (8).

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
A four-year degree in a related field, such as Engineering, Environmental Science, or Health and Safety. Ten (10) years of related experience in which at least eight (8) years were in a management position with some portion in the manufacturing industry is preferred. Well-developed management skills utilizing sound management principles in leading a team of employees. Proven ability to train and motivate personnel. Must have strong organizational skills.
KNOWLEDGE:
Must be knowledgeable on Tier II, Form R, EIQ, HAZWASTE Reporting, DMR, RMP, etc. reporting requirements.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS:
A Certified Safety Professional (CSP) is preferred.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and/or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from Governmental Agencies, supervisors, and employees.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a wide variety of technical instructions in mathematical, diagram, written, and/or verbal form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to mine, analyze, prepare, and present safety data. Be able to demonstrate proficiency in software such as OHMs, WC databases, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to move about the facility. The employee is required to sit; use hands to finger; handle; or feel/hold objects; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; speak, hear, taste, and smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Be able to speak on the phone and make field visits to industrial areas when necessary to remain on your feet for extended periods of time.

The work environment is a combination of corporate and manufacturing. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to cold and/or humid conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, cold temperatures, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
