The Vehicle Engineering Program Manager will support the vehicle engineering organization by setting the right priorities in an environment with many competing needs, as well as managing executions of timely delivery of products, product revisions, features, fixes, and releases. Their main task will be managing new program launches within the vehicle engineering organization. Additionally, the program manager will be supporting the various design teams within the vehicle engineering organization with critical design issues in production, managing timelines on upcoming design changes, organizing prototype builds, and tracking critical KPIs for the team. The role requires problem solving skills, exceptional teamwork, and communication skills as you will be working with many cross functional teams. 

Commodities of particular importance for this role include sheet metal, mechanisms & electro-Mechanism, plastics, lighting and the integration of these commodities into the vehicle. Candidate will utilize your expertise in one or more of these commodities and work with a lean and agile team of the best automotive engineers in the industry.

What You’ll Do

  • Define, implement and drive program requirements, workflows and plans while managing timelines, communications, quality, risks, uncovering roadblocks, defining critical paths, and any other issues that arise for the launch and validation of new vehicle sub-systems and components in all Tesla factory locations.
  • Establish a roadmap that supports the launch of new features and functionality; Work with Engineering Managers, Design Engineers and Vehicle level Program Managers & Provide insight around potential risks and opportunities, resolve conflict, initiate resolution and deliver results
  • Identify and document all program milestones and deliverables and keep program plans up to date at all times, including monitoring schedules, milestones, deliverables, updating percentage completion, etc.
  • Continuously monitor and measure program processes and activities to identify and communicate potential issues, risks, or problems in a timely fashion and provide corrective action options to drive to resolution
  • Organize and lead project specific meetings with key internal stakeholders, drive decision and escalate, if needed; Plan for local changes, initiated by the Engineering team, of parts and systems according to Tesla Change Management process
  • Collaborate with key suppliers and respective Tesla Global Supply Managers (procurement) to support overall vehicle launch milestones and prototype/production build events; Support validation engineer to ensure systems and components are delivered in time to local testing team and suppliers in order to ensure DVP plans are executed accordingly
  • Follow up with suppliers regarding system/part level validation timelines to ensure completion of DVP timelines and support Validation Engineer to Follow up on Jig/fixture supplier timeline definition and completion

What You’ll Bring

  • Education in engineering / science discipline, or equivalent experience and evidence of exceptional ability
  • Experience in project planning, tracking schedules, risk mitigation with business degree preferred
  • Ability to work cross-functionally between engineering, production, and supply chain personnel 
  • Strong capabilities in visualization of schedules and program risks
  • Systems level thinker with evidence of driving product design optimization across products, disciplines and teams 
  • Ability to find creative resolutions to technical and cross-functional challenges
  • Detail oriented with strong record-keeping and organizational skills, motivated and active collaborator
