The Sr. Chemist position in our Industrial Wood division that is responsible for a variety of exciting activities related to developing new technologies and new platforms in our high-performance coatings.

  • Work closely with other chemists and technicians on developing, reformulating, maintaining and enhancing products through planning, executing and analysis of experiments with clear and accurate results.
  • Display strong knowledge of the use of chemicals, raw materials, substrate preparation, coatings application and testing instrumentation to accurately manipulate and evaluate coating performance 
  • Responsible for defining experimental approach to generate and interpret data, perform data analysis and complete technical documentation daily into lab books or database
  • Functioning with little supervision, will lead individual and/or group product development and/or modification projects to create products with required product performance, manufacturability and quality
  • Utilizing advanced technologies to develop products that demonstrate improvements and differentiation that consumers can perceive and will desire.
  • Highly proficient in paint making processes, able to use defined process models to meet manufacturing process specifications
  • Performing coating formulations, modifications, applications and physical/performance testing methods to manipulate and validate coating performance
  • Accurate and timely generation and interpretation of experimental data to help understand and resolve field complaints, raw material issues, manufacturing problems, and support existing products and new product development projects
  • Experience with solvent-borne and water-borne coating chemistries
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Application and troubleshooting of coatings 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status).
  • Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math field. 
  • Demonstrated success in project leadership
  • Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
  • Experience working with Microsoft Access, Excel, Word

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • DFSS Yellow Belt certification
  • Experience with DFSS processes and tools

Travel Requirements: 25% Domestic and International
