Job Responsibilities and Requirements

Under minimal supervision, the Contract Analyst creates contracts, certificates, administrative agreements, amendments and riders for Group policyholders. Reviews product manuals for state requirements, and corresponds with Underwriters, Sales, Service and other Departments on complex cases.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Has a working knowledge of contractual requirements and products for the following lines of RSL employer-paid and Voluntary Group Coverage, including Small Group: GL, VAR, STD, LTD, VG, VPS, VPL, VAI, VCI and VHI.
  • Working knowledge of the issuing process for the state cash sickness plans for TDB, TDI, MA PFL, and DBL.
  • Creates contractual documents (new issue contracts, amended contracts, and employee certificates) for all insured Group lines of business, using PACS, EIS, and Xpertdoc.
  • Is familiar with and consults as needed: Policy Reference Manual; Contract Updates; Underwriting Manual and Underwriting Updates; State Requirements Manual.
  • Uses FoxIt to create PDFs of contractual documents for release to the RSO via an email attachment; Finalizes contractual documents in Xpertdoc.
  • Drafts non-standard contract wording, with guidance when needed from Senior Contract Analyst and/or Compliance; incorporates this wording into contractual documents using Xpertdoc.
  • Formulates administrative agreements that are addendums to the policy.
  • Creates contractual language, usually with guidance, when RSL is re-filing policy language for a specific case.
  • Prepares "Single Case" and "Trust" filings.
  • Consults on and handles complex policies.
  • Issues Administrative Service Agreements (ASOs) and ASO certificates, using an MS Word-based template, making case specific changes as needed.
  • Follows the completion process of forwarding related documentation in FileNet as well as documenting in PACS what was changed prior to completing the PACS task.
  • Reviews cases bound in PACS and EIS by Underwriting for contractual compliance and PACS/EIS/Xpertdoc compatibility.
  • Provides support and instruction to RSO staff on correct PACS input.
  • Makes minor, non risk-related corrections to PACS to facilitate transfer of data to Xpertdoc, and binds these changes.
  • Converts legacy cases (Calligo) to Xpertdoc.
  • Reviews work being sent to Policyholders, Regional Sales Offices and Brokers/Agents for accuracy and compliance.
  • Processes hard-copy reprints of employee booklets/certificates as requested by the Policyholder; including completion of instructions for the mailing of the printed certificates.
  • Provides contractual support to Claims with respect to current benefits for claims adjudication.
  • Maintains established production standards of at least 5-6 cases per day, with low error ratio.
  • Services an office assignment of 1-2 RSOs, with an average number of incoming pieces of work per week of less than 35.
  • Any additional duties assigned by the Manager.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Related Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s/Associates Degree or equivalent number of college level courses preferred.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience with a life insurance company in a Contracts/Compliance/Claims department required.
  • Excellent organizational skills, oral and written communication skills. 
  • High level of customer service orientation.
  • Ability to research and solve problems with some supervision. 
  • Ability to perform detailed and diversified duties including prioritization of high volume/deadline workload. 
  • Ability to convey knowledge to others in a clear and concise manner.
  • Knowledge of personal computer required to include Windows, Office 365, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • PACS experience an asset.
