Rockstar Games is seeking a talented and experienced Lead Software Development Engineer in Test to join our online development team. This is a full-time permanent position based out of Rockstar’s unique game development studio in New York City.

With the rapid growth of Grand Theft Auto Online, and other long-term Social Club plans, the successful candidate will be working on bleeding edge technology with an internationally established team, while having great attention to detail, being a strong team player, and having excellent communication skills.

WHAT WE DO

  • The Rockstar Games Social Club create connected experiences that are found across our game franchises.
  • We create online services for our games, including matchmaking, cloud saves, player stats, leaderboards, and more.
  • We improve existing features as well as architect new solutions to support the development of the Social Club community and website.
  • We create innovative in-game experiences, including user-generated content.
  • We build services and tools that support our consumer-facing experiences and our internal business needs.
  • We create companion apps for our games, including second screen experiences on mobile, tablet, and the web.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead a team of SDETs to build and maintain test frameworks, automations and tools.
  • Work with engineering teams to improve test coverage, quality and developer experience.
  • Drive adoption of best practices in code health, testing, testability and maintainability.
  • Work across engineering to inject testing earlier into the software development process.
  • Demonstrate expert technical knowledge that can be used to guide the team to solve complex tasks.
  • Establish quality goals and metrics to drive continuous improvement.
  • Define objectives and key results for the team, devise plans to meet the objectives, and communicate those via roadmaps to technical leadership.
  • Grow the skills, experience, and autonomy of the team through mentorship and coaching.
  • Conduct performance reviews for team members, including regular check-ins to assess progress and re-align where necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience as a SDET, SRE, DevOps Engineer, Tools Engineer, or similar technical role focused on quality.
  • Minimum of 2 years leading an engineering team.
  • A degree in computer science or equivalent.
  • Previous leadership and managerial experience.
  • Proficient in .NET and SQL.
  • Experience building developer tools, test automation frameworks and CI/CD systems.
  • Solid understanding of testing principles, testing types, methodologies and modern software development practices.
  • Knowledge of agile and DevOps principles and practices.

SKILLS

  • Excellent communication skills as a core member of an internationally-based team, with a proven ability to develop and maintain good relations and communicate with team members at all levels.
  • A strong sense of ownership, with a proactive nature, and a drive to accomplish objectives and drive a team to success.
  • Passion for web and automation technologies and a desire to remain up to date with the latest technologies.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.

PLUSES

Please note that these are desirable skills and are not required to apply for the position:

  • Experience with non-functional testing such as security and performance.
  • Experience with build tools such as msbuild, webpack or similar.
  • Experience with containerization technology (preferably Docker).
  • Experience in JavaScript, TypeScript and React.
  • Experience with C++. 
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python, PowerShell, Bash.
  • Experience working on high-traffic web applications and services.
  • Knowledge of Rockstar’s game titles and passion for playing video games.

The pay range for this position in New York State (inclusive of New York City) at the start of employment is expected to be between the range below* per year. However, base pay offered is based on market location, and may vary further depending on individualized factors for job candidates, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to those same considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a bonus and/or equity awards, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
