Job Description


Job Summary:
The Business Development Manager (BDM) is responsible for driving the sales revenues for the assigned territory/region for the entire FLIR product line.  The DSM will need to significantly develop FLIR’s business in this region by addressing key players such as operators, service providers, system integrators, enterprise customers and government through our various sales channels, resellers and Tier 1 partners.

Detailed Description:

  • This position will report directly to a Regional Sales Director and be responsible to:

  • Generate, develop, and manage customer and project demand for FLIR security products, directly with end-users, specifiers, and/or resellers
  • Represent the FLIR line of Quasar High Definition IP security cameras, ioimage video analytics cameras and video encoders, Latitude Network Video Management Software (NVMS), and our Applications & Integrations Center (AIC) custom engineering products and services in the assigned territory to increase sales volume both with existing customers and new prospects.
  • Work closely with and support the FLIR distribution channels of Value Added Distributors (VADs) and Security System Integrators (VARs) along with Architectural and Engineering Consulting firms in the assigned region to develop the FLIR customer base.
  • Work with End Users in your territory to expand the brand awareness of the FLIR product line, to assist in network designs incorporating the FLIR products and to facilitate the sales efforts of the Systems Integrators.
  • Generate, develop and manage an extensive reseller network that is motivated and capable of promoting FLIR security products.
  • Deliver customer presentations and demonstrations on the FLIR Smart Security Solutions product line to potential customers, consultants and system integrators.
  • Prepare project quotes for VARs and VADs.
  • Respond to customer RFPs and RFIs.
  • Negotiate customer contracts (VAR Agreements, specific project deals)
  • Train the distribution channels and customers
  • Manage accounts to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Participate in trade shows.
  • Prepare detailed sales reports and sales forecasting reports updated weekly based on projects and expectation of order intake, judging and carefully monitoring projects and up and coming requirements to fulfill those projects.
  • Meet expense budget targets
  • Maintain a database of customer contacts with customer profile information within the FLIR corporate Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system, which is today.  For accounts, document our product fit, competitive threats, sales objectives and strategies and sales action plans. 
  • Provide written feedback to company management and to Product Marketing on user requirements and competitive information obtained from market inputs.
  • Assist Company Management in refining the Company's business and sales strategies. 
  • This role requires up to 60% travel where it will be important to place a high emphasis on being out in the field and making timely meetings with the channel, organizing product demonstrations and managing demo equipment inventory over the territory.


  • Minimum 5 years previous sales experience in the Security Electronics Industry with evidence and emphasis on the high-tech volume market and demonstrated experience working with integrators, distributors, specifiers and end-users. 
  • College degree in business or related field, or commensurate experience.
  • Autonomous but with a strong team spirit, well organized, capable of working remotely and results-oriented. Possess leadership qualities and good interpersonal skills. 
  • High energy level, willing to travel.
  • Strong and persuasive written and verbal communications skills.
  • Technically adept and able to make complicated presentations and briefing to convey simply messages to win key selling accounts.
  • Ability to develop professional briefing materials and confidently present one-on-one to customers and in industry forums.
  • Trained on competitive VMS systems and familiarity with IP cameras.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel and Powerpoint)
