SWCA Environmental Consultants is expanding and looking for an experienced Biologist to join our team and embark on a fulfilling career at SWCA.  

 

The ideal candidate will have previous consulting experience and a proven ability to produce high-quality deliverables, excellent organizational and analytical skills, strong writing proficiency, and a demonstrated aptitude with relating biological data to broader ecological, restoration, or management issues.

What you will accomplish

  • Your role will be to serve as a biological project lead which will involve applying a wide-range of biological expertise in a complex regulatory permitting setting (including wildlife, botany, wetlands, and reclamation). You will also assist in the execution of biological tasks for other projects and new business pursuits.
  • Experience with the Endangered Species Act, Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act, Migratory Bird Treaty Act, and experience consulting with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is strongly preferred.
  • This position would include managing and/or participating in a variety of natural resources field studies including biological assessments/evaluations, wetland delineations, and associated plant and wildlife surveys.
  •  It would also include management for biology-related projects and tasks, such as data collection and analysis, technical report writing, quality assurance and control, and mentoring other staff to contribute or complete similar tasks.
  • Work could range from fieldwork to preparing permit applications related to the Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, National Environmental Policy Act, and other resource planning/permitting, and/or natural resource disciplines.
  •  Client management and business development acumen would also be a regular aspect of this job. The position is open to candidates who are interested in permanent employment.

Experience and qualifications for success

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology, environmental science, natural resource Management, or a related environmental sciences field required.

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in completing biological assessments/evaluations, habitat assessments, and/or federal permitting.

  • Knowledge of the fauna and flora of the Intermountain West and Great Basin region preferred.

  • Avian and wildlife experience preferred.

  • Prior experience with GIS software (ArcPad) and Trimble GPS units and ability to use technology for data collection.
