Overview and Job Summary
WRI China is committed to facilitate and accelerate low-carbon development in China towards achieving carbon dioxide emissions peaking before 2030 and carbon neutrality before 2060. We use a multi-prong approach to work with a wide range of stakeholders, from governments, to businesses, academia, NGOs, financial institutions, and practitioners to explore solutions for carbon neutrality transition.
Subnational jurisdictions, including provinces, cities, and industrial parks are playing important roles in realizing the above goals. Key development regions such as the Yangtze River Delta, Greater Bay Area, Jing-Jin-Ji, Shandong, and Cheng-Yu are expected to lead the transitions and pioneer innovative technical and policy solutions. WRI China has been actively working in these regions to facilitate an orderly, rapid, and equitable transition towards carbon neutrality. We develop analytical models and undertake policy analyses to identify solutions for systematic transitions of key sectors, including energy, industry, transport, etc.
Businesses are also playing an important role in advancing China’s carbon neutrality agenda. We actively convene and facilitate domestic and multinational corporations to pursue low-carbon business models and practices, including setting science-based targets, scaling renewable energy procurement, and decarbonizing supply chains.
In line with our expanding work in the above areas, we are opening the position of Research Associate at senior level. We offer a flexible environment for you to contribute and grow together with our teams on any of the priority areas and locations depending on your expertise, interest, and our project needs.
You will work with our in-house and external specialists to conduct research and engage with policymakers, businesses, the civil society at the local, national, and international levels to advance transformative solutions for China. You will have opportunities to leverage WRI’s global network of expertise to deliver our works in China and share our experience with our global networks across the continents.
Job Responsibilities
o Analysis of policy and market reform options to support China's transition to clean power including through the use of system mapping
o Track global progress of power sector reform, including technology application and supporting policies and market mechanisms.
o Cost-benefit analysis of low carbon technologies in power sector, such as renewable energy, energy storage, etc.
o Business model analysis/case study for integrated clean energy solutions in typical application scenarios, such as industrial parks, rural areas etc.
