OVERVIEW

The Department of Molecular Metabolism and the Harvard Chan Research Center on Causes and Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease (CAP-CVD) at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health invite applications for the position of Research Scientist. We seek outstanding candidates with experience in using physiological, cell biological, and biochemical approaches to address questions in lipid metabolism as they relate to cardiovascular physiology and disease.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The Research Scientist will be responsible for a wide-range of duties. They will design and conduct experiments related to lipid metabolism and its role in cardiovascular physiology and disease development. This includes in particular murine models of disease, but also biochemical and other assays. Responsibilities also include developing research grant proposals addressing the role of lipid metabolism in CVD, in collaboration with Drs. Farese and Walther and CAP-CVD staff. The Research Scientists will present results of CAP-CVD research at internal and external conferences. Additional duties include, training and supervising trainee laboratory members in laboratory experiments, particularly murine physiology and lipid metabolism. Furthermore, the position will aid in supervising and managing the physiology group within CAP-CVD. The Research Scientist will participate in generating the CAP-CVD annual report and other documents related to center development. This position will have much independence, both in carrying out projects primarily as well as assisting in supervising trainees with their projects.

Basic Qualifications

  • Applicants must have a PhD, MD, or equivalent degree in physiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology or related disciplines with postdoctoral research experience.
  • A record of scientific accomplishment documented by peer-reviewed publications.
  • Excellent oral and writing communication skills.

Additional Qualifications

  • Experience in studying metabolism, cardiovascular disease or lipoprotein biology.
  • Experience with in vivo mouse models, animal handling and conducting metabolic experiments in mice.
  • Experience with lipid biochemistry, tissue and plasma lipid analysis, molecular biology techniques, and mammalian cell culture.
