Job Summary:

The main responsibilities of the Deputy Training Development Manager include:

  • Acting as the focal point for all Army HQ engagement;
  • Deputising for the Training Development Manager;
  • Deputising for the Senior Programme Manager LVC;
  • Business Development in support of the Portfolio Manager;
  • Scheduling the Macro-SCOPIC/CTS/JFST business development plan;
  • Acting as a focal point for LVC capability enhancements;
  • Acting as an LVC Team Leader as required.

Key duties and Responsibilities:

  • Focal point for all Army HQ engagement.  The Deputy Training Development Manager performs a critical role in the managing the collection of business intelligence through direct engagement with CDUK’s primary customers in Army HQ.
  • Deputising for the Training Development Manager.  The Deputy Training Development Manager will be required to deputise for the Training Development Manager both in the UK and overseas. This role is specifically geared towards business development opportunities with empowered entry-level customers.
  • Deputising for the Senior Programme Manager LVC.  The Deputy Training Development Manager may be required, on occasion, to deputise for the Senior Programme Manager LVC.  This role is specifically geared towards business development opportunities with empowered entry-level customers.
  • Deputising for the Operations Manager LVC.  The Capability Deputy Project Manager may be required, on occasion, to deputise for the Operations Manager LVC.  This role is specifically geared towards surge periods for new and emerging service delivery tasks.
  • Business Development in support of the Portfolio Manager.  The Portfolio Manager has responsibilities across the AWES and LVC programmes.  The Capability Deputy Project Manager is to be prepared to support pan-programme business development outside of the core LVC requirement.
  • Scheduling the Macro-SCOPIC/CTS/JFST business development plan.  The Deputy Training Development Manager is responsible for capturing business intelligence on the Macro-SCOPIC, CTS and JFST opportunities and, in conjunction with the Programme and Operations Managers, prioritising and scheduling resources and personnel to support capture efforts.
  • Acting as the focal point for LVC capability enhancements.  The LVC training and simulation market is evolutionary, fast moving and reliant on emerging technologies.  Whilst all staff have a remit to horizon-watch, and the Deputy Training Development Manager will be a key arbiter in ensuring the technology roadmap matches the customer requirements.

Qualifications:

In order to carry-out the role of Deputy Training Development Manager within the CDUK LVC Team the following qualifications, skills and experience should ideally be held:

  • Project Management (APMP or Prince 2, or equivalent);
  • Significant experience in the management and resourcing of military training;
  • Instructional experience in a military environment;
  • Graduate of Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, or similar National academy;
  • A working understanding of the MoD’s contractual procedures;
  • Clean UK driving licence in Cat B.

Working conditions:

In general terms, the role is one that is predominantly office-based.  However, working outside of normal hours (including weekends) is expected based on opportunities and needs analysis.  In addition, the Deputy Training Development Manager must be able to work while travelling, globally.  Finally, the nature of CDUK LVC Team operations are such that ‘working in the field’ will occasionally be necessary and the Deputy Training Development Manager must be prepared to do so, in excess of 24 hours.

Physical requirements:

The role of Deputy Training Development Manager is not especially physically demanding, but the nature of CDUK LVC Team operations are such that the Deputy Training Development Manager must have a robustness of character in order to operate effectively on those rare occasions that are outdoors or of long hours.

Direct reports:

The Deputy Training Development Manager directly supervises any sub-contractors employed for project management and capture tasks.
