The Role

As a Software Developer, you will work as part of a close-knit development team following Scrum methodologies to create new product features and enhance existing code, whilst ensuring the product continues to meet high levels of reliability, maintainability, usability and performance.

As a Senior/Lead Developer, you will lead the development of our cutting edge risk analysis / financial modelling product.   You will work as part of a close-knit development team following Scrum methodologies to create new product features and enhance existing code, whilst ensuring the product continues to meet high levels of reliability, maintainability, usability and performance.

  • This is an evolving role that will cover a wide range of tasks such as: Providing guidance and inputs to architecture, design, technology and feature roadmap
  • Liaise with peers, colleagues and stakeholders across the technology organization and technology vendors
  • Architecting, designing, implementing, refactoring and testing code (C#), following best practices for maintainability, testability and performance
  • Implementing unit tests (C#, NUnit), developing test frameworks and associated automated test cases
  • Reviewing and debugging code to identify defects, performance bottlenecks or technical debt
  • Working closely with test engineers to guarantee suitable test coverage, identifying and executing manual tests if necessary
  • Participating in sprint planning meetings, daily stand-ups and sprint retrospectives, striving to continuously improve the team velocity, its processes and engineering practices
  • Working with the Product Owner to help create User Stories and define acceptance criteria
  • Coaching and mentoring other team members
  • Documenting requirements analysis or design decisions

Job Requirements

The Requirements

  • Experience of working in an Agile/Scrum environment. 
  • Senior-expert level software development, using C# .NET.
  • Ability to design and implement high-performance, scalable and extensible software architectures which are also easy to test, debug and maintain,
  • Ability to profile and diagnose performance and memory issues
  • Industry experience with full software development lifecycle: requirements capture and analysis, estimation, detailed software design, object-orientated software implementation, unit and system-level testing, installation and deployment,
  • Industry experience with software engineering best practices: object-oriented design and implementation, design patterns, SOLID principles, Agile and Extreme Programming methodologies,
  • High numeracy skills, degree-educated in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or Science
  • Comfortable  working in CI/CD environment with tools such as VSTS, GIT, Team City, Octopus Deploy
  • Passionate about new languages/frameworks and learning about new and emerging technologies

Other highly desirable, but not essential skills are:

  • Experience of leading high performance agile teams will be highly regarded
  • Experience in modern C++ and a deep understanding of low level computing aspects will be highly regarded
  • Experience in Azure and Cloud Technologies
  • Ability to coordinate day-to-day development and bug fixing activities,
  • Appreciation of current and emerging technologies along with their potential benefits and limitations
  • Visual Studio Team Services and Git
  • NUnit (or other unit testing frameworks),
  • GUI design/implementation or knowledge of standards, WPF or WinForms,
  • ASP.NET MVC, WCF, JavaScript, Angular JS, React, Bootstrap, or other web software frameworks,
  • SQL Server or other database management systems
  • Passion for maths, statistics and complex algorithms.
