Job Description

The Chemical and Materials Engineering (CME) Department at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Position: Supply Chain Modeling for Water Networks and Lithium Supply Chains. We are seeking a dedicated and innovative postdoctoral researcher to delve into the evolving domain of supply chain modeling, with a prime focus on water networks in the distinctive ecosystem of Northern Nevada and the rapidly increasing lithium supply chains. This unique opportunity promises deep academic inquiry, industry collaborations, and the chance to influence future practices and research directions in these fields.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop robust mathematical and simulation models to analyze, predict, and optimize water distribution networks. Engage in state-of-the art research on lithium supply chain dynamics, forecasting potential bottle-necks, and proposing sustainable solutions. Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team of researchers, industry experts, and graduate students. Publish influential papers in high-impact journals and present findings at international conferences. Lead efforts on grant proposals writing on these subjects. Mentor both undergraduate and graduate students and engage with stakeholders to promote knowledge transfer.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in in Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, Operations Research, or a related field.
  • Completion of a doctoral degree in the appropriate discipline is required.
  • The doctoral degree must have been completed within the five years immediately preceding the first date of appointment as a postdoctoral fellow at the University.
  • The individual cannot have held previous positions in the professional ranks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong background in mathematical modeling, optimization, and simulation techniques.
  • Proficiency in relevant software tools (e.g., MATLAB, Python, GAMS).
  • Excellent communication skills with a demonstrable record of academic publications.
  • Passion for sustainability and making a meaningful impact in real-world settings.
