Tumblr: Search and Dashboard (Homepage) Backend - Software Engineer
Tumblr is looking for an experienced PHP, Java, and/or Scala engineer to take our Dashboard (Homepage), Search, and Explore experiences to the next level. Tumblr hosts over 380 million blogs with more than 150 billion posts, and we’re always searching for novel and creative approaches to prioritize, select, and present the most relevant, engaging, and interesting content personalized for each and every member of our diverse audience of users.
What You’ll Do:
Surface the best Tumblr content from 380+ Million blogs and 150+ Billion posts.
Invent and implement new algorithms underlying the Dashboard, Search, and Explore experiences on Tumblr.
Explore and implement new signals and features to improve content quality and relevancy as well as build tools to experiment and evaluate new approaches.
Work closely with our infrastructure and SRE teams to craft and maintain architectures that support efficient development and deployment of your ideas.
Team up with the Search and Dashboards Frontend team to integrate your systems into our client platforms, including mobile, web, and public API.
Deploy high-performance distributed microservices and systems for search and discovery.
Improve reliability, scalability, efficiency and latency of existing services and process.
What We’re Looking For:
A motivated individual with a track record of solving hard problems and getting things done.
Highly productive developer in PHP, Java, and/or Scala.
Knowledge about Machine Learning, Information Retrieval, Full-Text Search, and/or Ranking functions.
Familiarity with Hadoop and MapReduce, Including frameworks such as Spark, Hive, or Scalding.
Familiarity with Full-Text indexing libraries such as Apache Lucene or Solr.
Comfortable developing on and deploying to Linux-based systems.
Bachelor’s degree or greater in Computer Science or a similar field.
At least two years of industry work experience using similar technologies.
