Responsible for full range of pulmonary function testing in children and adults including cardiopulmonary exercise testing and cardiology stress testing; provides education to patients and families in respiratory therapies, airway clearance techniques; cleaning and maintaining equipment and communicating treatment plans; education also performed with Health Care Team members. Provides assistance in research protocol design, implementation and testing. performs respiratory therapies as needed within the pulmonary lab clinic setting, calibrates and maintains testing equipment, and performs administrative duties as needed (ie faxing, posting charges, and ordering supplies). Performs testing in all of our satellite locations as well as here in Hartford.

  • Perform /document all facets of pulmonary function testing, including oximetry, capnography testing and 
  • arterial and capillary blood gas sampling; and various pulmonary exercise testing including infant pulmonary function testing and cardiology stress testing.
  • Educate patients and family members, students and other health care professionals regarding techniques and procedures.
  • Assist in the fiberoptic bronchoscopy procedure, which includes setting up, monitoring the patient’s condition during the procedure and cleaning and maintaining scopes.
  • Calibrate and maintain testing equipment and to identify and seek resolution for technical problems. Perform respiratory therapies as needed within Pulmonary Lab setting.
  • Perform administrative functions as requested, (e.g., scheduling patients, posting charges, filing documents, 
  • ordering supplies).
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the age-related differences and needs of patients in appropriate, specific 
  • populations from neonate through adolescence and applies them to practice. Demonstrates cultural 
  • sensitivity in all interactions with patients/families.
  • Demonstrates support for the mission, values and goals of the organization through behaviors that are 
  • consistent with the CCMC STANDARDS.

Education and/or Experience Required:

  • Education Required: Successful completion of a 2-year Respiratory Therapy program approved by the Council on Medical.
  • Education of the American Medical Association.
  • Experience Required: Three years experience in pulmonary function testing or 5 years experience in respiratory care.

License and/or Certification Required:

  • R.R.T. registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care.
  • Licensure by the State of Connecticut.
  • CPR – Basic Life Support (BLS), American Heart Association or Military Training Network. Must be Maintained.
