The Ocean Cleanup develops advanced technology to extract, prevent, and intercept plastic pollution. Our goal is to initiate the largest cleanup in history by mid-2018.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Geospatial Analyst supports the Ocean Plastic Research Team by providing solutions in obtaining and analyzing data sets to further study the accumulation and distribution of ocean plastic debris and interaction with the marine environment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Identifying methods for gathering data on marine plastic debris, such as remote sensing, optical data gathering, etc.
  • Collecting and analyzing large data sets regarding presence, movement and other aspects of marine traffic and fishing activities, marine life and marine debris
  • Providing and interpreting statistical information, comprehensive reporting and visual representation of findings

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • You possess a master’s degree in an applicable field of engineering or science
  • You are experienced in analyzing large data sets, mathematical computation and GIS applications
  • You have experience with remote sensing and optical technology
  • You have experience with Matlab, Python or R

PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Accuracy and savviness
  • Result-driven and self-motivated, even when faced with adversity and setbacks
  • Flexible and comfortable in a continuously changing environment
  • Comfortable working independently
  • Must be available to work extended hours and weekends as needed
