OVERALL SUMMARY:

HBO is seeking a Manager of Business Development to join the Global Licensing & Retail team. Reporting to the Director of Business Development, the ideal candidate will be a strategic, results- driven professional with experience in new business development, deal negotiations, and working with third party licensees to grow HBO’s licensed consumer products business.

The successful candidate will support the department’s business development team in developing the global strategy for HBO’s licensing business. This individual will work on a dedicated team and collaborate closely with colleagues to develop a successful portfolio of licensed consumer products that are brand appropriate across all of HBO’s original programming.  Key attributes include experience in the licensed products industry, a background in conducting both outgoing pitches and in-coming inquiries, an understanding of branding in consumer products and a facility with interpersonal communications. This person will be based in New York, NY. 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
 

  • Responsible for supporting Director in developing and maintaining a global licensing program for all HBO IP to extend brand awareness

  • Key department figure for maintaining, optimizing and growing HBO’s portfolio of third party licensees.  This will include the continual evaluation of these key partnerships as well as evaluating new opportunities. 

  • Aid in the creation, maintainance and curation of a balanced product portfolio spanning apparel, print, collectibles, figural, digital, gaming, food & beverage, live branded experiences and more.

  • Communicate regularly with industry professionals by pitching opportunities outwardly and receiving in-coming inquiries.

  • Create third-party-facing collateral materials (pitch decks, branding presentations, etc) used to support business development efforts 

  • Negotiate deal terms and contracts with third party licensees across all product categories and international regions.

  • Assist Director in oversight of international licensing agents to represent HBO on the ground in unique markets.

  • Assist with royalty revenue collection, financial forecasting, auditing and accounting for the group.

  • Collaborate with HBO colleagues in other departments such as Legal, Finance, and Marketing.

  • Work closely and collaboratively with Global Licensing & Retail department colleagues in Product Development, Retail & Marketing and E-Commerce to ensure cohesive work product.

  • Travel domestically and internationally to represent HBO and the Global Licensing team at industry events.


REQUIREMENTS:

We are looking for a highly skilled individual who has requisite experience in the licensing industry, takes pride in building and maintaining a diverse and successful portfolio of licensed products and thrives in a dynamic and fast-paced work environment.  

  • 3+ years relevant experience in a licensing industry business development role, with a deeper background of 5+ years total in licensing.

  • Impeccable communication skills both written and oral, public speaking experience preferable.

  • Experience creating third-party-facign sales collateral materials and presentations.

  • Exceptional project and relationship management skills including collaboration with internal groups and with outside partners.

  • Foundational business skills, including contract negotiation business negotiations.

  • Strong knowledge of current licensing industry and retail trends and strategies.

  • Knowledge of branding, marketing and advertising trends.

  • Ability to multi-task and thrive while working on multiple projects in a fast paced, evolving environment 

  • Expertise with Microsoft Office software, additional facility with Adobe Creative Suite products preferable

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
