The Brain Modulation (Deep Brain Stimulation or DBS) business is going through an exciting time of rapid innovation and revenue growth. As these new innovations are commercialized, it is increasingly business critical to manage our product portfolio in a way that provides seamless business continuity, maximizes the total business impact, and brings these innovations to our patients and customers around the world.

We are looking for a driven and dynamic Sr. Marketing Director for the Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) Business. You will be responsible for building and driving the overall marketing strategy and plan to support the DBS business. This is a ~$500M global business with multiple therapies and customer groups. You will have responsibility for maintaining and building this business’s strengths in customers’ minds through competitive product positioning, promotion through various channels, clinical messaging, field execution and many other marketing vehicles. You will be responsible for developing a marketing plan for the portfolio of products and therapies based on customer insights, for identifying specific marketing tactics in the plan and for directing the execution of that plan through your therapy team direct reports and other cross-functional partners. Finally, you will lead our portfolio strategy, ensure a strong understanding of future customer needs, and own market analysis and research.

In your role, you will report directly to the General Manager (GM) of the Brain Modulation business, be a member of the business leadership team (GM staff), and lead a team of upstream and downstream marketing professionals.

A Day in the Life

  • Identify key issues facing your business and develop an annual marketing plan and quarterly plan of action to address those issues
  • Establish competitive marketing strategies to ensure a market leading position for Medtronic against traditional competitors as well as non-DBS competitors
  • Develop and implement marketing efforts for approved DBS indications such as Parkinson’s, Essential Tremor, Epilepsy, OCD and Dystonia to a variety of stakeholders including healthcare professionals and patients
  • Prepare, execute, and track upcoming product launches
  • Work with product development and R&D teams to translate market insights into innovative product concepts and partner with Business Development to evaluate inorganic opportunities.
  • Formulate and execute pricing strategies that align with overall business goals and market positioning
  • Contribute to Brain Modulation and Global Business Team through various activities such as strategic and annual planning, quarterly business reviews, and employee engagement initiatives
  • Lead cross-functional teams (sales, marcom, market research, advertising agencies, operations, field education, etc.) as needed
  • Direct the hiring, training and performance evaluations of marketing staff and oversee their daily activities
  • Initiate market research studies and analyze their findings as necessary
  • Identify big new ideas to drive brand and category growth including Market Development, Direct to Consumer (DTC), and Digital strategies
  • Build partnerships with all customers and stakeholders to drive growth for the business, customers, and therapies
  • Build awareness for therapy objectives, plans and solutions – both internally and externally
  • Partner with sales training and medical education to integrate marketing messaging including clinical marketing
  • Partner with Brain Modulation Clinical Leader to develop and execute on clinical marketing strategy through various channels
  • Develop KOL strategy and customer engagement strategy including deployment of strategy at industry congresses, customer experience events and fellowship program
  • Ensure the quality policy system is planned, understood, implemented, and maintained by ensuring compliance within the department
  • Partner with operations to ensure continuous product availability
  • Partner with Quality on deployment of any field corrective actions (FCAs)
  • Ensure departmental compliance as well as appropriate departmental resources are available to effectively maintain the quality system (people, facilities, tools, training)
  • Partner with the Brain Modulation and Neuromodulation IBP leaders to support the implementation and execution of IBP
  • Drive actions to support cross functional/regional attainment of financial goals; free cash flow, revenue growth, market share, operating margin and AOP commitments for Brain Modulation components of the IBP
  • Track mutually agreed upon performance metrics that reflect Brain Modulation IBP performance
  • Effectively manage budgets assigned to you including capital allocation decisions across global marketing
  • Able to travel up to 40%

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree required
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in marketing, business development and/or sales with 10+ years of managerial experience , or Advanced Degree with a minimum 13 years experience in marketing, business development and/or sales, minimum of 10 years of managerial experience

Nice to Have

  • MBA or MS Mgmt degree.
  • Track record of driving results in both upstream and downstream marketing capacities
  • Demonstrated achievement of business goals.
  • Strong background in complex selling situations, and ability to cultivate and maintain executive relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead people directly and by influence and achieve results through others.
  • Strong track record of operating and leading within complex organizations.
  • Ability to analyze complex business issues and lead the development of customized action plans to drive value for the customer and Medtronic
  • Ability to develop and expand relationships with key physicians, administrators, and Medtronic personnel in order to achieve business objectives
  • Strong cross-organizational collaboration skills; ability to operate effectively in a matrixed environment
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Demonstrated success in complex negotiations
  • Strong knowledge of hospital and healthcare economics
  • High level of financial acumen, forecasting and budget management including strong analytical skills to analyze and complete financial/profitability analysis, project sales
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning forecasts, and quantitative market segmentation models
  • Highly effective verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively coach and lead others.
  • Recognize the importance of building and maintaining strong interpersonal relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to learn technical information and apply technical concepts
  • Willing to travel domestically (+40%)
  • Excellent IT skills, including all Microsoft packages
