Position Summary 

FUNCTION OF JOB

The student assistant will operate under the supervision of Languages, Linguistics, and Rhetoric (LLR) faculty to promote Spanish program, assist with recruiting, event coordination, and carryout departmental duties, such as, filing papers, creating flyers and promotional materials, and maintaining communication of the program live and through social media platforms. Student assistants must commit to 10-19 hours per week with specific hours assigned to be determined. Two positions are available.

Minimum Qualifications 

Currently enrolled UNT Dallas, UNT Dallas College of Law, HSC or UNT student in good standing and making satisfactory progress toward completion of a degree or certification program. Applicants must possess the following:

  • Work-study eligibility.
  • Excellent customer service skills, as well as effective oral and written communication skills in Spanish and English.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office computer applications (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to learn video editing software such as Panopto.
  • Demonstrated ability to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions accurately and to respond to supervisor requests and emails in a timely manner.
  • Responsible, reliable, and punctual.
  • Ability to learn assigned tasks readily, to adhere to prescribed routines, and to develop some skill in the operation of common office equipment.
  • Completed a minimum of 48 hours of course work toward a bachelor’s degree (junior or senior standing).
  • Ability to manage Social Media Platforms, such as Facebook, Tweeter and Instagram.
  • Ability to edit and create promotional materials, such as, flyers and posters.
  • Ability to lead and organize events.
  • Willingness to represent the Spanish Program at other sites, such as, High schools and other local organizations.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Comfortable working within a team, as well as independently.
  • Interest in assisting peers with career concerns.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to present information to groups.
  • Experience using of MS Teams and/or Zoom.
  • Experience in translation and interpretation (English-Spanish)

  • Work Schedule TBD, depending on the student’s schedule of classes.
