A day in the life…
 

Nordstrom is leading the way toward building a true Omni-channel shopping experience for our customers and empowering our salespeople and internal employees with the information and tools they need to provide the best customer service. In order to further deliver on this mission we are looking for a Senior UX Researcher who has not only demonstrated their ability to impact the evaluative phase of feature/product development but also possesses the skills and passion to provide breakthrough insights from generative phase research and synthesis of user needs, corporate strategy, enterprise abilities and market opportunities. 

 

The Senior UX Researcher is responsible for working across other groups to define research projects; plan and conduct research; analyze and present findings to key stakeholders; and strongly advocate for the user during all phases of the feature/product design process. The individual that is perfect for this position is not only an expert across a wide range of standard methodologies, but is also not limited by them and can develop original research to tackle complex issues that arise in the internal tools that employees use every day. They are an effective, approachable communicator with great story telling abilities that bring the most impactful insights to light within a first-to-market timeline.

  • Collect information to analyze and evaluate existing or proposed functionality across a variety of platforms (e.g. desktop, smart phone, tablet, interactive store displays, POS devices
  • Write and maintain process and/or system documentation for research initiatives
  • Ensure project management of testing process including acquisition of necessary assets and collaboration of external vendors 
  • Translate customer needs into effective, valuable solutions and communicate user experience considerations to various partners.
  • Help ensure budgets are adhered to and deadlines are met
  • Ensure accuracy of archived materials and findings and maintain confidentiality of information being processed, stored or accessed 
  • Work with other groups to ensure direction of solutions are customer-centric
  • Support and drive process improvements
  • Provide guidance and training, as applicable, to support the team
  • Reconcile divergent demands of multiple stakeholders 
  • Identify and prioritize risks to build the project’s test schedule
  • Provide exceptional customer service through professionalism, ownership and initiative 
  • Show commitment to team through collaboration and positive, proactive communication
  • Demonstrate productivity through the efficient use of time and a commitment to strong results

You own this if you have…

  • Master’s degree in Human Factors, Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Minimum of 5 years experience planning and conducting user research
  • Demonstrated fluency in a wide variety of qualitative and quantitative usability techniques. (e.g. lab studies, 5-second tests, paper-prototyping, card sorting, design reviews, heuristic evaluations, design mapping, task analysis, site visits, surveys)
  • Fluent with usability practices and theory
  • Experience testing mobile applications a plus
  • Experience with Morae software or other video editing software a plus
  • Experience with Agile development process a plus
  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • Demonstrated negotiation and facilitation skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite
  • Ability to quickly learn other applications as necessary
