The Role

Willis Towers Watson operates a number of outsourced actuarial function projects for a variety of Life Insurance companies in the UK.

As the new and only Operations Manager, you will have responsibilities across the whole portfolio of projects and ensuring they are operating efficiently and effectively with scope to steer the direction of the role and create value.

The outsourcing team is a dedicated, diverse and high-performing team with a strong team mentality.  You will be an integral part of this team and involved in all aspects of the delivery.

You will report to the Outsourced Services Director.

Key aspects of the role are:

  • Managing the resource profile of the portfolio and ensuring we have suitable capacity to meet the services.  Proactively seek to move resources across projects to fulfil changing resource demands and achieve maximum utilisation of the team.
  • Support the delivery team with project management where required (e.g. helping to set up an annual plan but then handing it over to the team to monitor and maintain).
  • Manage the financials of the portfolio and report to the Service Director with key performance metrics and analysis of them.  This will include monitoring delivery versus targets, preparing management information and analysing actuals vs budgets to assess where issues might need to be investigated.
  • Engaging with the team, understanding strengths and weaknesses and helping to co-ordinate them to get the best performance.
  • Liaise with the clients directly to understand and formalise reporting timetables and schedules of delivery.  Be a point of contact for them with queries around services and deliverables.
  • Identify areas where the service to clients could be improved and/or expanded.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills and provide direction and guidance to the team.
  • Scope and project manage any special projects in conjunction with Client Managers and Systems Development teams.

Ensure professional excellence and best practice is being followed across the portfolio. 

Job Requirements

The Requirements

• Demonstrable experience of Operations Management or Project Management role with responsibility for service delivery and client facing responsibilities.
• Relevant professional qualification – PMI / CII or equivalent industry standard.
• Strong interpersonal skills to include good written and verbal communication and presentational skills.
• Excellent time management skills and the ability to multi task, controlling multiple concurrent projects.
• Computer literate including competent IT skills with Microsoft Office products.
• Demonstrable problem solving and analytical skills relevant to a management role.
