Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno announces a search for a Program Manager, Special Events to begin February 1, 2024. The Program Manager reports to the Dean/Associate Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and completes other projects as assigned by the Dean/Associate Dean.

The Program Manager, Special Events serves as coordinator and lead manager of several major School of the Arts (SOTA) events and programs including the Reno Jazz Festival (RJF), Performing Arts Series (PAS), and Lake Tahoe Music Camp (LTMC). This position is responsible for the development, coordination, oversight, and supervision of the SOTA special events office operations. The School of the Arts special events position will foster faculty collaboration, student engagement, and community outreach to meet the educational, intellectual, and cultural needs and goals of the university and the State of Nevada. The Program Manager, Special Events serves as the university spokesperson to the community and university for SOTA events and programs and will work to develop and implement performances/presentations and outreach activities within the university and the community. This position will be the liaison between Reno Jazz Festival Director and Associate Director and staff; Lake Tahoe Music Camp Co-Directors and staff; PAS Committee and staff; School of the Arts academic units and staff; and other departments across campus (i.e. Lawlor Events Center, Joe Crowley Student Union, etc.) This position will oversee SOTA program artistic negotiations/contracts, develop and implement comprehensive marketing and public relations plans for events and programs with Marketing and Communications. The Program Manager, Special Events will work with the Liberal Arts Development Officer(s) to research, develop, and solicit donations and sponsorships for SOTA events and programs. This position provides centralized grant management and coordination for the School of the Arts program by identifying, researching, and writing grant proposals and follow-up paperwork and reports. The Program Manager will oversee SOTA special events annual budgets and fiscal analysis and supervise budgets and spending. The responsibilities of this position will include some evening and weekend hours.

The Program Manager is expected to exercise thoughtful judgment and meet deadlines; develop and maintain effective professional relationships with staff, faculty, university representatives, vendors, and other constituents; function effectively under stress; adapt to changing environments; and display flexibility.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree and three (3) years of related work experience OR
  • Master’s Degree and two (2) years of related work experience

Related Experience:

Managing, coordinating, and developing arts programs/events in a public or non-profit arts organization or related. 

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with event program development including the creation of plans that affect the impact, longevity and financial solvency of special event programs, grant writing, marketing, fiscal management, and computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite.
