The Department of Undergraduate Academics at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering invites applications for multiple full-time, non-tenured, renewable faculty positions in General Engineering, at the level of Lecturer, with a start date of September 1, 2023.

General Engineering is seeking a Lecturer to support first-year engineering students in developing their technical communication skills in the General Engineering (EG) 1004 Introduction to Engineering and Design course. This course is central to the students-first initiative at NYU Tandon School of Engineering by offering project-based learning for practical engineering skills development in the first year. EG-UY 1004 is a gateway course to the rest of the curriculum and opportunities that students will have at Tandon and in their future careers. The EG faculty and teaching assistants represent a variety of disciplines and act as mentors for student projects and professional development.

We are seeking a dedicated faculty member who can advance our students’ writing. EG1004 is a multidisciplinary first-year engineering course that is required for all engineering and computer science majors at Tandon. This course is team-taught by a group of faculty who are supported by a large team of undergraduate teaching assistants. A Lecturer's primary roles are teaching, mentoring and educational innovation, and the position may also entail some administrative work and outreach. The Lecturer will teach five recitation sections in addition to supporting course operations.

The Lecturer will co-facilitate recitation sessions with another professor who serves as the primary instructor.

Their responsibility is fulfilled by:

  • evaluating weekly individual and group written assignments
  • delivering short lectures on technical and professional communication
  • hosting in-class one-on-one appointments with students to address writing issues
  • collaborating with other faculty on curriculum development
  • auditing grading across sections
  • updating and maintaining course material

The Lecturer will also assist with the operations of the course. This includes management and review of the teaching assistants; design of course material and content; and standards for course assessment and delivery.
