What’s the role?

Shell Energy North America is seeking a Senior Natural Gas Demand Analyst individual to join our long term North America fundamental analysis team embedded in the Trading division. This position is responsible for developing medium (2 to 5 year time horizon) and long term (5 to 20+ years) natural gas analytics using the GPCM tool. 

The successful candidate will work closely with all other analysts withing the team. In addition, this role is responsible for bringing all the internally derived Supply and Demand views together and modeling those forecasts within GPCM to derive the long term price forecast by region. The long term natural gas demand analyst will be responsible for generating long term demand views (Industrial and LNG Exports) and extracting the essential components that will drive natural gas demand and ultimately influence natural gas prices. This role primarily supports our E&P side of the business with analysis developed from a deep understanding of the key drivers such as: Macroeconomics, GDP Forecasts by industry, GTL, LNG Exports, etc. This position must build credibility with internal customers so that such foresight can be translated into commercial gain primarily in the E&P side of the business function but also in Trading. The emphasis is on developing both qualitatively and quantitatively advantaged capabilities, supported as appropriate by models, tools and techniques that yield high quality insight. Collaborating with peers in the Fundamentals team to build scalability in this respect is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Develop own demand view (excluding power generation) of regional gas market fundamentals – be able to logically, clearly and as necessary, provocatively articulate this view to the customer base. Identify and evaluate the implications of major trends and developments in the regional gas markets.
  • Develop long dated LNG export view – this will require understanding global indicators that influence the domestic market.
  • Develop tools and models to enhance the quality and accuracy of forecasts, with emphasis on building price, regional demand.
  • Consolidate regional supply/demand views into GPCM and generate price forecasts by region.
  • Expand contacts, both internally and externally, to improve the quality and timeliness of intelligence.
  • Maintain positive relationship with external consultants and leverage information and analysis that they provide in order to maximize productivity in supporting Shell Energy North America.
  • Capture synergies between the near- and long-term Fundamentals teams.
  • Must have excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Build strong networks across the Shell network.

What we need from you

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • BA in Engineering/Mathematics/Economics/Econometrics/Business/Finance, MBA or PhD preferred
  • 5+ years of experience with GPCM and North America Natural Gas Fundamentals
  • Must be able to develop Fundamental views based on quantitative analysis that will be translated into profitable trades
  • Demonstrated understanding of gas supply and demand fundamentals
  • Proficiency with typical Microsoft Office applications required and comfort level with technology-based research given the ability to manage multiple high priority tasks preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relations at multiple levels and across teams
  • Ability to filter multiple perspectives for commercially actionable intelligence
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, both written and oral

The base salary range for this position is $122,000 - $182,000 per year. Individual pay will be based on various factors such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.

For regular full-time or regular part-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave to birthing mothers, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents. Additionally, employees are eligible for disability leave for up to 52 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay. Shell also offers other compensation such financial reimbursement for adoption, wellness, education, and personal learning expenses, and some roles are eligible for discretionary long-term incentives. For interns, eligible benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs; participation in a 401(k) plan; and paid leave for up to 11 paid holidays.
