Job Description

Essential Job Functions

This role provides thought leadership to the organization through the proper application of analytical techniques to drive strategic choices, tactical execution, and commercial excellence. In addition to strong analytics skills, the role should have excellent communication skills, a demonstrated track record of effective business partnership, business impact and influence.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Supports the Director in developing business frameworks and related analytical processes based on the needs of the Company’s senior management, Commercial, Commercial Operations, Finance, Regional Business Leads and Manufacturing functions.
  • Presents recommendations and findings to various stakeholders within the Commercial organization.
  • Applies strategic thinking and communicates highly complex analytical processes in a clear and concise manner.
  • Supports regional ad hoc analysis, represents Asia projects, and manages regional vendors.

Business Analytics

  • Designs dashboard reports and oversees analytics for senior management reporting in assigned franchises.
  • Lead in development, implementation, enhancement, and problem resolution of analytical reporting systems utilized by Business Analytics and Commercial.
  • Liaises with Commercial and Commercial Operations teams to facilitate the development of strategic targets and segmentation tactics.

Forecasting

  • Projects demand for Gilead’s and competitors’ products within a particular therapeutic area over the next two to three years.
  • Advises senior-level internal stakeholders (e.g., Business Unit Heads, Finance, Product Management, Sales Management) on forecasting assumptions, inputs, and outputs.

Regional Responsibilities (~10% of time):

  • Manage the Regional Analytics Vendor for the regional reporting needs
  • Conduct ad hoc regional analyses when requested by Regional Commercial Operations.
  • Be the Regional lead on global/regional analytics projects (eg ICF Cloud)

Knowledge, Experience, and Skills

  • Advanced understanding of statistical and analytical techniques is required.
  • Must be able to construct mathematical models that effectively simplify user interaction and maintain the integrity of the underlying data and analytical structures and leverage previous investments in systems, data structures, and human resources.
  • Ability to assume full responsibility for accuracy, reliability, and timeliness of deliverables completed through own efforts or those of subordinate employees is required.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate technical and qualitative information to executives in all functional areas through interpersonal, verbal, and written channels.
  • Must have successful track record of managing projects and multi-tasking in a deadline intensive environment.
  • Must be able to recognize and interpret business issues/opportunities and recommend solutions through analysis.
  • Experience in a pharmaceutical environment is required, as is a solid understanding of principles relating to the area of specialization.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant software systems (e.g., MS Excel, Access, SAS, SQL, Cognos, MS Word & PowerPoint, etc.) is required.
  • In-depth knowledge of global Sales and Marketing organizations and pharmaceutical data sources (e.g., IQVIA, NDC, Verispan, Scott Levin, etc.) is required.

Specific Requirements – Business Analytics

  • Must be knowledgeable of business intelligence systems, their application within the biopharmaceutical industry, and how various systems communicate with one another.

Specific Requirements – Forecasting

  • Must have experience with creating forecast reports, forecasting trends, and identifying the bias in a forecast.
  • Understands how to work with syndicated data specific to the biopharmaceutical industry.
  • 10+ years of experience with bachelor’s degree in either Business Administration, Informatics, Finance, Economics, Applied Mathematics or Computer Sciences.
  • 8+ years' progressive, related industry experience with a minimum 5-year analytical experience in pharmaceutical industry. Regional experience is preferred.
  • Experience in conducting primary market research, working with sales data and secondary data inclusive of pharmaceutical data sources such as IQVIA.
  • Experience in data mining, descriptive analytics, application of statistical methods, analyses and modelling, predictive modelling, opportunity assessment and quantification, and simulation.
  • Experience with the Legal/Medical/Regulatory review process.
  • Experience in segmentation, targeting, forecasting and in quantitative/analytical function (analytics, data science, business intelligence) in the pharmaceutical industry is desirable.
  • Track record of coordinating multiple teams to prioritize business objectives and meet business requirements. In addition to communicating effectively to internal stakeholders, experience in managing direct reports, contractors and external vendors is preferred.
